F-150 chrome removal

Starting way too many projects at one time again. I was thinking that I could build a tribute to my cousins f-250 custom that he bought new back in 1973. I remembered 2 Dremel bits that I had that make the job a snap (right?).

Well, I quickly regretted starting that. Turns out you need a much mor stedy hand to pull this off. I only finished one side of the cab and now I had to go back and put filler to correct all the inconsistencies in my snap chrome removal. Bad idea.

I've been considering that, but haven't worked up the nerve. I don't have the most steady hands.

Is your Dremel variable speed?

Yep.  I find low is almost always the way to go. I think I used med 1 time

I got the idea when I searched f150 on this board just to get some ideas and saw that someone did this . I thought my 2 bits would make it an easy undertaking.  When does that ever work out. 😫

Nice project. This is a tough thing to do on this kit. I've done it twice and it's a PIA. My white 75 was done freehand and didn't come out very good. On my yellow 79 I used a couple old metal rulers and clamped them above & below the trim to keep from removing more than I wanted, then I finished with a round file. I understand your frustration but keep going and you'll get it.

Wow Mark yours came out really good! Thanks for the tip. I have 2 sets of files. maybe the will word but I'm definatly using you tp along wit them. I even thought of wrapping some finer sandpaper around a metal rod of some kind. I think there are some pics of it but all our family photos are at my sisters in boxes. I'll try to find some if I get a chance this weekend but here's one I found on google that looks exactly like it except his was that more lime green .

My dad ended up buying it off him and I got to drive it a lot. That thing had some stones. You could feel the grunt under your right foot. Big 4 speed sticking out of the floor, rubber floor mats, all business.

Great job on that, both look quite neatly done to my eye! Seems like a very challenging mod but you set it up so the machining was consistent, very clever! Excuse me for asking, which kit are we talking about here, I may now have to get one myself

I'm doing mine from the AMT Super stones 1979 f-150 kit available now.
