I don't normally do WIP threads. Usually find myself just getting lost in the build and forgetting to take pics.

I'm going to try on this one.

Revell's F150 Lightning.

I'm not really a Fast & Furious fan, but I am a big fan of older trucks.

Step one on this was to deal with the wheels. The kit wheels & tires are nicely molded, but are way too small for the kit.

Seeing as how I've recently purchased a 3D printer, I figured this was a good kit to start with.

So for my first print, I made a new set of wheels & tires.

Keep in mind, this pic is before I had cleaned up any of the parts. A quick wipe with a paintbrush cleaned a lot of the residue and stuff off.

The download of the files was about $6CDN. And according to my printer software, I used just under $2 worth of resin.

Once these get painted, should look much better. The tire lettering is visible, and there are even wear bars in the tread.

As far as assembly goes, here is where I'm at so far.

More to come. :)

Nice start Dan.

Got a link for the wheels?

I saw a set of those on Cults. Not sure if it's the same creator as yours tho.

EDIT: Never mind, I just looked them up and yes, it's the vendor I was thinking of.

What printer did you get?

So I am running an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro, as well as an Elegoo Mercury Plus wash & cure station. Resin is the water washable version, also from Elegoo.

Cool! I wish I had the computer skills to make a 3D printer a worthwhile investment.😕 which one did you get?

Greg, minimal computer skills required! The Chitubox software that comes with the printer is super easy to use. I'm not a computer guy by any means, and I was able to figure it out pretty quick.

And the printer, the wash station, and two 1kg bottles of resin were under $600 CDN. All on amazon.ca :)

The Lightning wheels on Cults are the ones I used. Lots of good stuff on there.

Yeah, I found them right after I posted. He's got the '01 Lightning wheels in 20" as well.
I've got a few of his wheel sets, probably 3 or 4 currently. And many more I want to get for down the road.

I bought his McLaren F1  GTR set for a couple of builds I'm working on now, they're perfect.

I like the lightning wheels but I like what you made and they are a better fit . Following Dan!

The ones he got are Lightning wheels also...they're the style that came on the '01-'02 trucks, which is what mine had stock.  I'm now running 20" wheels in the '03-'04 style with the rears widened to 11" from the original 9.5".

Should be back on this shortly. Been out of commission since Saturday. Nasty flu bug around here has knocked me out. Awaiting some test results, hopefully negative for anything worse than the flu. Ugh.

I'll be adjusting the ride height on this one too. I want it to sit pretty low.

The kit wheels are the right size for a '99 Lightning. They measure .785 which equals 19.625 inches in scale. Minus the wheel lip, they're an 18" wheel. I'm using a set on a '95 Ranger.

Visually, there's just something so...off...with that stock set up. Be it the wheels or the tires, or a combo of both.

I think the larger replacements will look much better when done.

Sweet truck. I have a soft spot for sport trucks, regardless of brand. I should pick one of these up! Keep it up.

Also the resin looks great. I’m hoping to get the same setup as you soon. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Elegoo.

Haven't got much done lately, but made a little progress last night.

Used Tamiya's Flat Rubber Black and painted the tires, then Tamiya's Titanium Silver and put a first coat on the wheels. Noticed two things right off the bat.

First, the wheels need a bit more sanding. I did some sanding and cleanup before paint, but as soon as I got a coat on there, some layer lines appeared. So I'll give those a little more attention and will then add some more paint.

Second, tires look pretty good. Again, a little more cleanup in a couple of places, then they should be just fine. They still look better than the original wheel/tires that came with the kit.

Dan , your tires and wheels are a great improvement. Having just received this kit a week or so ago I am watching your build with great interest. the box included tires and wheels are undersized. I wanted to do this model stock but was forced to dig threw my parts and find better sized rolling stock. Better but still undersized I feel. I ordered Duplicolor Sonic Blue Pearl as a paint color.

I haven't decided on a colour yet, but I'll most likely go with the bright red. 👍

Any more work on this ?

Very slow progress!

I was finishing up a review for the mag, so put this on the backburner for a couple of weeks.

Back at it now though. :)

I printed another set of wheels for it, using some new printer settings. The same set, but over the past month or so of printing, I've learned a few things, and these ones came out much better, with layer lines almost invisible. Will get some updated pics and stuff this week.
