What Are You Planning/Hoping to Build in 2022?

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year! Time again to ask, "What are you planning or hoping to build this year?" I didn't do so well in 2021. I think I completed 22 models but only about 6 of them were on my original 2021 Plans list. Ah shucks oh well, here's my list for 2022, and you'll notice a few are carried over from the 2021 list:

AMT '65 El Camino drag car rebuild (already well underway)

MPC '72 GTO drag car

AMT '62-'65 Nova hardtop—at least 1, maybe 2

New Moebius '64-'65 Nova—at least one, maybe 2

AMT '66 Nova pro street

AMT '66 Riviera for “Replica” group build

AMT '67 Riviera promo rescue

AMT '65 Chevelle street cruiser (carried over from 2021 list)

AMT '64 Cutlass HT—resin body with other original 1964 parts (carried over from 2021 list)

MPC '57 Chevy flip-nose gasser

AMT '66-'67 Falcon—at least 1, maybe 2

AMT '54 Stude or '55 Chevy for Cannonball group build

AMT '62 or '66 Thunderbird Sports Roadster—maybe both

AMT original annual '67 Cyclone glue bomb resto.

MPC '67 GTO “Mr Unswitchable” survivor resto/rescue

AMT '65 Chevelle AWB funny survivor restoration

Fiat or T-bucket altered dragster, maybe both

AMT '66 Impala promo rescue

AMT 60-'64 Corvair glue bomb rescue

AMT '71 Chevelle (carried over from 2021 list)

AMT Meyers Manx

Monogram '55 Chevy convertible custom survivor resto/rescue

AMT '65 Galaxie glue bomb rescue

How about you? What's on your GITTER DONE list for 2022?

Boy Snake , you have a great list. Since I only built 1 for 2021, I’m probably going to do the same for 2022. I have a 1/8 cobra 427 comming soon. Well depending on the container issue. A 1:8 ford GT , and a 935/78 also. Here is the 935 engine so far. But since it took weeks to do this engine, I only have 52 more to complete the rest. LOL

Happy New Year back at you !   Well for this year I plan to wrap up a couple 1/25 cars I need to finish and then choose one of the 1/12 scale cars to start on. Which one ? I don't know .  I have 1/12 1971 Mustang Mach 1, the Trumpter ( Magnifier) 1/12 GT 40 and also the Meng 1/12 Gt 40 pre painted version. I am leaning towards the Mustang.

First, I plan on finishing my Edmunds Supermod. If I decide to participate in a 24-hour build, this year, I'll likely go with the '63 Nova wagon (curbside version) as an NHRA Stock class racer. Beyond that, I have been seriously considering building the Gunze Sangyo Indian kit my friend gave me for Christmas, one year, decades ago. I finally feel like I may have finally developed/acquired the skills I felt that I needed, to do it right.

You all have seen my Shelby Green Hornet here on the board, so right now that's got priority.

After the Shelby, I've had this one on my mind for a looooong time. The pic is courtesy of Pat W as he posted this one here. I'm going to have a different take on this Buggy as I want mine to be "streetable"..........sort of.

There's the BYCB (Birth Year Community Build) here on the board and I want to get something going for that. In the lead is this car.............

IMG_5329.jpg.5381efd16522345f0dce63195cd9d472.jpg

I want my Ventura to be this same color with like interior.

Last on the list for this year (subject to change) is this car...........takes me back to my High School days as it was my Driver's Ed car................

1976-oldsmobile-cutlass-supreme.jpg.94acf69308307ea57f1400233413abb4.jpg

I have a 3D printed (and then cast in resin) body coming from Robert Burns (Too Many Projects on FB) very shortly. Rob showed a '76 on his FB page, but he mentioned a '77. It could be he'll offer grilles for both years as they're slightly different. I have all the other bits and pieces to get this car done including scripts, tailights, wheels, tires, interior.........etc. Full detail with engine and chassis. This is the car I'd like to take to GSL next year along with a couple others. Hopefully, it'll be done by then, or very far along at the most.

I have a couple 1/8 partwork models still coming to my house. The DeAgostini Ford GT40 which has been held up with lack of parts for awhile. I also have Agora's 1/8 Jaguar XKE convertible which I've been getting parts for that regularly for several months now. At the moment, I'm going to shelve the 1/8 projects and focus more on the smaller stuff, namely because of GSL coming during the middle of next year. Barring any hangups, that's a MUST GET TO show for me since that's going to be the last one, and I want to make definite sure I've got something to take along.

Please post your '61 Pontiac build when that happens. I also am a big fan of the subject as well as this kit.

I never seem to have a plan.  I wander from one build to another and there's never any rhyme or reason.  I have so many builders waiting patiently to be brought out and finished that it seems when I finish one I stand and stare at the stash for a few minutes until something jumps out.  I guess I would like to start/finish a few more cars from my family's history, and those from my wife and my 49 years.  Remaining of ours would be our 68 C-10, 71 Impala HT, 72 Pinto non-hatch, 73 Caprice, 76 Malibu wagon, 77 Caprice 4dr, and two early 80 VW Rabbits.  Obviously some of these will never get built.   Family before I got married in '72 would be a 66 Lemans, 67 Camaro, 68 Biscayne wagon.   Finally, I suppose the one I really should get to is my resin 65 Olds Cutlass that I need to try and mod to an F-85 post.  This was my first car, bought from my girlfriends sister/husband in 1967 when I was a year away from my 16th birthday.

Love these threads!  Thanks for posting one of these again Snake!

I started to make my 2022 list yesterday…I got these as an early Christmas present from a buddy, so they’ll be fairly high up the list:

A5370D06-2334-4275-9688-175FAF958E96.thumb.jpeg.378555c6ce9636b01da242e3968f94c3.jpegEB5EAAD0-8203-4D6A-BB3B-45BFFF207C41.thumb.jpeg.cd878ccbb6ba9e8fa81bd3573f52774d.jpeg

Im working on my Mooneyes dragster build - would like to wrap that up this month:

B95A5C24-C745-44BE-A879-8F243467006D.thumb.jpeg.c76f5d4682c8ebaaa6eb827139fed51c.jpeg

I’ve been working on a 34 truck that got put aside so I could finish up some of my ‘21 builds, so that’s on the list for this year too, and on top of those I’d like to build the following:

- A replica of the 1:1 Mooneyes ramp truck
- A kustom Impala
- A gasser of some sort - maybe a Henry J or the new Mobius Nova
- A funny car - probably the recently re-issued Atlantis Tom McEwan car
- A dirt modified
- A couple more hot rods
- Whatever the NNL East web theme project is (even if I don’t end up making the show…but I HOPE I do)
- Maybe a Beetle?  I’ve had a couple of VW ideas bouncing around my brain lately.  I have a dune buggy T idea in my head too…
- A dirt oval car - I did one last year and I’d like to build something for it to race against

Lower on my priority list, if I get to them are…

- A 70s rail dragster
- An AMC Gremlin with an aircraft engine
- A Bonneville streamliner

Catch you guys in 364 days and we’ll see if I managed any of these! 🤪

That's a fair old list Snake! Good luck.

I've had to look back at my 2021 list to start working this out:

1. Finish BMW M635 and Toyota Celsior (Lexus LS400) reshell projects. BMW is on the bench as I speak, I'm not starting anything else until it's done! Could be today/tomorrow?

2. Get on with the Ford Courier + Thunderbird V6 engine that I have barely started.

3. Monogram Mountain Dew Regal stock car for the replica community build.

4. 1970 something for the CBR 2022 year of birth community build. Current plan is for an AMT Challenger with Viper V10.

5. Refresh and reassembly of Monogram '57 Chevy I originally did back in the '80s.

6. Finish Toyota Hiace by Gunze Sangyo that I started last year.

7. Finish Humbrol/Esci Fiat 131 Abarth rebuild started last year, originally put together very early in my kitbuilding days.

8. After I've got several of the above into the cabinet I can allow myself to do a few more straightforward projects - mostly stuff from the Japanese makers with aftermarket wheels, lowered and clean paint.

9. Various projects utilising 1980s and '90s Mustang/Viper/Corvette/Skyline/RX-7 etc engines in older cars/trucks.

The long list remains as last year, I'd like to get at least one of these underway.

10. AMT '71-ish Mustang as an early 1980s UK street machine with polished tube gille and Centerlines, to fulfil an image I've had in my mind for 35+ years.

11. Stretched Aoshima Subaru Sambar kei-truck with recovery body carrying a Hasegawa Subaru 360.

12. Tamiya Morris Mini done as a 1970s/80s street machine with vinyl top and opera windows.

13. Ford Escort Mk2 as an early '80s National Hot Rod (short oval racer).

14. Datsun 280ZX as a Saloon Stock Car (short oval racer), driven by local legend Horry Barnes (RIP) who raced into his 80s.

15. Rebuild Tamiya Lotus 7 that I first built back in the '80s.

16. Loose replicas of various 1:1 Datsun/Nissans I've had/still have.

Well shoot, I’ve gotta tackle my plethora of WIPs (especially that Kenworth) before I get too carried away. I’d like to do some more old postwar cars and pickups, along with some early 40’s stuff. I’ve got a couple things schemed out ready to go, one being a Moebius kitbash that’ll be a ‘66 F-100 4x4 Flareside pickup. My mom also wants me to build her the Supernatural Impala (I don’t know who’s a bigger fan of that show, her or my girlfriend). I also want to build a replica of an early 80’s Chevy S-10 pickup that my dad used to have.

I'm waiting for warm enough weather to finish painting the Hurricane Typhoon (aka the egg crate grille and the car behind it). Next will be the 1946 Power Wagon which will pull a large speed boat and trailer, also to be built. Then a model A roadster with a 289 Cobra engine and manual tranny. Finish the 62 T-bird, Opel GT, Lincoln Continental custom, several hot rodded Ford customs, several Ford hot rods, building all the Renwal Revivals, building a custom bodied Duesenberg, building the Stuart Hilborn streamliner- OK,  that's more like a lifetime list but I will have a lot of fun trying!

Wow you guys build/plan to build a lot of models!  Here is my plan, let me think....

  1. The Revell Beetle that I got from Santa and started right away.
  2. The AMT 65 Bonneville already started
  3. The Tamiya Leyton House - about 60 percent complete
  4. The original issue Demon slant six (car I learned to drive in - was pop's car)
  5. The Hasegawa Datsun 510 Safari Rally car halfway home already
  6. Don Garlits 1/16 Revell scale rear engine dragster
  7. And finally finish the Tamiya FW14b 1/12 scale.....
  8. OH, forgot about the AMT Autocar dump truck about 60 percent on the way home...

There are others, but these are on top of the list until I pull out another project....which I really would like to be...

  • The Tamiya 1/12 Porsche 908
  • NuNu Audi Quattro John Buffum Olympus version
  • Aoshima Nissan 200SX turned into Group A rally car
  • Lotus 79 Tamiya 1/20....

I’m looking forward to seeing those short track oval cars especially - love stuff like that!
