CBR BMW M635CSi, Fujimi Entusiast in depth.

Recommended Posts

So for this years CBR I chose to start a Tamiya 635CSI, but I was not satisfied with the looks, some thing was of. So on a hunch I bought the Fujimi version of the M635CSi, and man I am impressed! The level of detail is Beyond anything that I have seen in 1/24! For the ones, like me not familiar with the kit I ad the sprues further down.

my plan is to build a CBR entry for my birth year which is 1987. It will be almost built straight out of the box with some CBR changes. I am leaning to a turbo set up, just love that kind of setup on these bmw motors since they can handle allot!
Side note, my friend ran a E34 turbo converted 3,5l with around 700 whp.

I will also do som minor upgrades along the way. Like fuel cell for the long CBR. Seat belts, shifter and steering wheel I believe.

I will most likely remove the spare tire location and ad a big fuel cell bellow the floor, and move the exhaust exit to the side, I am not a huge fan of center exhaust as these have. This also means that I will need to smothen out the lower part of the body work, more like a Alpina. (This is still OTB for me 🤪)

The stock wheels are so good looking so I believe they will be used even though I have a hard time leaving stock wheels on a build. But I think I will leave the center caps of and maybe order some nuts to ad on the kit supplied studs.

The plan is a deep dark metallic blue paint with. The bumpers will be painted to match and I will keep a minimum of chrome since I believe it does not fit that well on these. At the moment, the grill trim is the only chrome I will keep.

I attach pictures of the sprues, from Super-hobby.com they also have the Instructions’s.

Here is one of the inspirations I have.

And here is the side by side comparison with the Tamiya kit. The roof on the Tamiya is much taller which looks wrong in my eyes.

First is Tamiya with same wheels and after is Fujimi.

So i have been doing some test fitting to see what needs adjustment. And the chassi was a bit too much forward.

The aligning pins in the front was not centered and so wasn’t the chassi according to the rocker either. So some sanding on the top part of the torpedo amd some sanding in the back moved everything backwards 1mm. Just hope to the gods that this was intended so the whole interior still fits.. 🤯😅

The suspension is a kit in it self.. 7 parts including the drive shaft just to assemble one side of the rear drivetrain with suspension! Just wanted to se if my move of the chassi affected the wheel placement and it seems to be working

I also test fitted the grills. And one of them, the left one was really badly cast. Allot of flash in between the bars as well as a crocked lower bar. Some knitting and bending with the exato made it better but not perfect.

I also sawed the hood and trunk of the sprues and fitted the hood bracing. The kit comes with 3 different options for trunk spoiler. I will go with the one that seems to be made for body color and having the biggest kick.
I also removed the rear bumper chrome and glued the parts together.. will se what I do there.

An other more complete mock-up with my planed wheels, I like the low stance they can give. O and the rocker panel is not there yet.

And the wheels I had planed for the Tamiya. Sits to high in my opinion. And they are slammed in the front.

What’s your thoughts on the wheels?

Been thinking about the wheels and tried with some other rubbers to see if it would fit better. Ended up grinding the wheel well in front and thinning the fender and overfender to get the wheel to sit more where I want it to. Now it’s looking better. Rear arches will see equal treatment to push the wheels outward.

The part I like the least is the rear bumper, it’s to “low” or some thing. Need to think on it.

Before front arch mod:

And after arch mod:

As said, it’s many parts! And that’s far from all the parts for the rear seat.

Great project, and many thanks for the Tamiya vs. Fujimi comparisons.

The 635 is the last of the BMWs I really like, a superb driver's car, but still relatively simple to work on.

I've been wanting a model and your most excellent thread here has been very helpful already.   :D

Thanks for looking in! You are welcome. The Tamiya kit is much easier, and a typical Tamiya kit. But the looks for me is so much better on Fujimi.
I can agree on the 635! I also like the E34 but after that it’s no more for me.

I hope you look in later in the build as well and please feel free to comment 🙂

Very good looking kit you have there, great parts to work with. I use 635csi parts on my project 745i, but I don't know what manufacturer they are originally, some are Fujimi and some are Tamiya for sure.

The low stance suits well on 635csi, and with no chrome it will look superb.

yes the Fujimi kit is Beautifull! Tamiya probably have better fit on some parts but less detail 🙂

yes I saw that, looks like Tamiya parts mostly judging of what I have in my two kits 🙂

I think so two, not sure on wheels though…

The wheels you're showing are the Fujimi ones, not Tamiya.  Tamiya wheels do not have the lug bolt feature (at least none of the one's I've had/seen)

Absolutely correct.

I did some minor modifications to the inside of the rear wheel arches. I used the Dremel and took out some plastic to thin it out, al this to get the wheel couple of mm further out.
I also think I have made up my mind on the wheels. I also made some adjustments to some parts, no picture yet on them.

While watching the F1 GP this morning  I took out the Dremel and used it as a bench lathe. Turned the outside diameter of the stockers down from 18mm to 17 to fit a set of sleeves I have. Think this looks good now I just have to try to sort te suspension and wheel of set to work with this.. 😂😅

Hello Anton !! I’ve been busy with home projects, so I’m trying to get caught up here. Progress looks great on this, and obviously I love the low stance. Very nice job on the wheels, those sleeves look perfect on them. The extra time spent on the inside of the fenders to move the wheels out was definitely time well spent.

Cheers, Steve

Made some nice progress. I test fitted the front struts with one of the disc assembly’s and hubs.  I had to bring the wheel inward about 1mm to get the wheel where I like it to be. I took that out of the loose hub. The lowering in front is super easy since the strut have different holes, and thats suits me well, just to fixate in the perfect spot 😉

I also switched out the stock disc assembly for a custom part, believe they are Mr.model from Brazil.

Also went with a thinner tire to make it sit lower and fit the wheel wells better. The sleeves are 20,5mm which would make them a ‘19 wheel so makes sense to have a thinner tire on this old ride.

I have also noticed that the rear bumper sticks out far. I tried with the Tamiya bumper that fits like a glove, and is a bout 1mm thinner, which looks way better.

I guess that’s all for to night. O and in these pics the front wheel is fixated on the strut.
