gseeds
I like building model cars from nicely sealed kits, all the parts in a box fresh and untouched, But I Love building someone’s else’s old prior started or built model car, something I can carefully take apart, strip the paint, clean up and make my own, I get a bigger satisfaction from building something from a rebuilder than I do with a brand new kit, my mom use to say I was a gluten for punishment, but I cant help it I like the challenge, such is the case with this jo-Han 1960 Desoto, I traded a couple of models for this built up model with my buddy Scott here on the site, the model wasn’t all that bad of a built up and looked good from a far but far from looking good, i loved the sides and quarter panel fins and tail lights but I hated the front grille and front and rear bumpers, so after the tear down and paint strip, I reworked the front of the hood and rolled the lower front and rear panels and added new grille and bumpers from the parts box, shaved everything not needed, primed and painted pearl white and a candy purple fade, wheels and tires are from the predicta monogram kit, spot lights from parts box , everything else plus motor are original jo-Han kit, fun build to do, thanks for looking!! Gary. first picture is the car when I first got it. Edited April 3, 2022 by gseeds

Kah puts
Who are you, and what have you done with Gene Winfield, alas someone else beat me to the comparison, but you deserve high praise for this work of art. Thanks for posting.

bisc63
Very tasteful custom, and that front end is WAY different now. What is that grille, Mercury, or Buick maybe?
Bainford
Beautiful custom, and I love that paint. Nice smooth style and really digging the front end. Lovely model.

Claude Thibodeau
Hi Gary! Well, if ever there was an "extreme makeover", this is it! Your customizing is subtle, the front end is stunning, and your fade job is world class, as usual. Bravo! CT
Koellefornia Kid
Great looking custom cruiser! I love the paint scheme!
espo
Great looking Kustom body work, but the paint job is what really sets this build apart. That would be something to share a picture with Gene Winfield. I like the way you detailed the engine bay.
Misha
Great looking custom Gary, quite the transformation! In agreement with all the comments above. The grill appears to be from the 59 El Camino kit as the custom Mercury replacement. Cheers Misha

Plowboy
The paintwork on this is awesome!! It takes a special talent to make a car as ugly as a '60 Desoto look cool and you definitely have that talent!

Spex84
Beautiful work! Love that fade job and the modifications...you've kept all of the cool features of the car and ironed out the weirdness that it suffers from in stock form. I particularly like the bladed bumpers.
