I would be in line for one or two of these kits as chassis upgrades for the AMT/SMP 59 Imperial and, if Atlantis decides to bring back to us the Revell 62 Imperial annual, would be a lot nicer piece than the kit parts, in spite of being curbside in nature.

It's my understanding that the Black Beauty is a curbside too?

I assume it's OK to post this...a partially-assembled early test shot.

Mike, thanks for posting those photos.  Nice work on your build up, I saw it last time I was at the office.    These kits should be on the water any time now if they aren't already.  We just got our productions samples and we'll be sending a few out for review.   It's kit AMT1271 for those who want to get their pre-orders in.

Coincidentally, the estate of movie model maker Greg Jein is being auctioned off. There are a LOT of detailed photos of the full-size car that would be a big help for detailing the kit, including interior and trunk shots; but here are some images of the miniature built for the rotating garage floor scenes. Also included are shots of the '66 Chrysler 300 miniature:

Where are the real miniatures today?

Wish I knew. I was hoping Greg Jein had them, but at least he saved the photos. Too bad I sold that Jo-Han '66 Chrysler 300 convertible I built back in the '70s - I hope somebody who has one will build a diorama of the garage, complete with rotating floor!

FYI-The size and proportions of this kit match the AMT annuals pretty much bang-on

I have a '66 annual with plans to build the custom pickup version.  It looks surprisingly easy to adapt the leftover stock pieces to the 4dr body.  Looking at the fit of the various pieces, the toughest part of a conversion would be foil copying the very faint Imperial badging on the annual body.

Re the difference between the rear decklids on the two bodies shown, note the different model years; the '66 decklid was recontoured on the 1:1, and the '66 annual matches the GH body.

I hope they mold it in black.  That would be more fitting to do in a kit like this.  Or, at the very least, offer it in both black and white colored plastic.  They did that on previous kits like the ‘84 GMC “Deserter” PU.

The production kits are molded in black; the white one in my pic is a test shot.
