Slotto
I was inspired by one I saw on this site. I wanted to take it a step further by having posable front wheels. I found 2 cars on ebay. They were a little more than I wanted to pay and I was a little nervous about possibly wrecking an expensive car. But the desire to have it look the way I wanted won out. Both cars arrived safely so i decided to go after the one that was of lesser quality of the two. I wanted to have poseable front wheels so the chassis that came with her just wouldn't do. I looked around and just wasn't thrilled with my 442 so I decided to use its frame. I used the upper and lower a arms and I cut the springs. I used disc brakes from the parts box and spindles are picture nails. I had to put in spacer blocks for the upper a arms. The steering rod is tube stock and I used fishing hooks for the ball joint ends. I'm using pegasus wheels. I picked up some duplicolor Chrysler Champagne for the outside. I'll be using red for the interior. Stay Tuned...

Slotto
Thanks gents. Next I worked on the rear half of the chassis. In order to get the wheels up under the body I needed to narrow the frame. I had to reinforce the frame so it wouldn't fall to pieces. While I was at it I narrowed the rear axle as well. I'm keeping this car a curbside so most of this will not be seen so I mounted the rear axle to the frame hard tail style -no springs. It's a shame not to have a power plant. This old engine would wave looked cool in an open engine bay. Now that the foundation is complete it's off to the interior. As you may know this was molded as one piece. Well 2 pieces if you include the dash. In order for me to add detail to the door panels, I had to liberate them from the rest of the interior. Even as a curbside, this is proving to be a lot of work. dino246gt
Nice work, it's so much fun cutting and splicing and adding more detail, you're doing all that and it looks great!
Slotto
As shown earlier, I had to bust apart the interior so some detail could be added. Everything including the headliner got a splash of red. I wanted to stick with Chrysler Fire Red but the only can the auto store had was open and used. I had to settle for the GM alternative. The large chrome areas on the door cards and seat backs were done with white glue and cheap tin foil. I couldn't find my flat white for the dial faces so I used what was on hand. Liquid Paper. Next I held the tub together with tape while I applied a liberal amount of glue to bind it all together. I found a set of headlight lenses in the junk yard that snapped right in. Next I'll brighten up the chrome with some Molotow. Stay Tuned...
beeRS
Lovely work. I’m loving the slammed look and those Pegasus wheels are cool. Would they be a scale 20”? Who makes this kit? are there two different types? I remember having a full detail kit of this with a Turbine engine when I was a kid. I think that was a JoHan. Such an interesting kit, and I was too afraid of building it so sold it to another collector.
Slotto
Thanks! I believe that there are 3 flavors. One was a promo and Johan made an easy build kit and a more complex kit with all the fixins. I'm sure others on the board have more info on this. This one, I think is an easy build. The bottom was held on with 2 screws. I have another one that has 2 rivets holding it together. Not sure of the scale size of the Pegasus wheels. They are definitely not on the larger size. I think these look just right.
Slotto
After 2 coats of paint and one coat of clear. 2 days after the clear dried... I got an anxious and I had to do a test fit. There are a few things that I should be addressing but I'm willing to let them go. I got a little overspray on the headliner. I may go after this with some light grit to remove the overspray and generally tone down the red. The body lines still slightly show the plastic color. I didnt notice this before I shot the clear. I need to polish the glass a bit and throw on some chrome yet. Not to mention adress the worn bumpers. Stay Tuned...
Slotto
Much like Chrysler back in the 60s, I too am experimenting with new ideas. I'm using the dull side of tin foil to cover the lower half of the body. It gives that bright look without being too shiny. Then I'll go after the trim with the Molotow pen. Another experiment was to use a fresh Sharpie to cover the roof. I don't hate it.
espo
Seeing how nice this is turning out I'm questioning why I never tried this kit. I think I just kept thinking about the original concept instead of what it could be.

Slotto
Alright, I lied. Here's more. While I'm waiting for more supplies I decided to go after those pesky panel lines. I brushed on black acrylic and just before it cures, I wiped it off with a paper towel. What a difference! I've never filled the seams before. I will definitely be doing thing on future projects. Bugatti Fan
Interesting build and a different take on this car. I can remember building that old Jo Han kit many years ago. It turned out a nice model as I remember.
