PatW
I washed and dried the kit, masking off where the blue was to go and spray painted that area. After a few days of drying I peeled off the masking tape added the front and rear bumpers and laid up all of the decals and they were just superb! On finishing the rolling chassis, I added the windows after painting the black areas. I then attempted to add the body to the chassis and found that difficult, as the body didn't stretch as far as it needed to. This took off the front bumper ruining the beautiful multi coloured top decal! I debated whether I should attempt to remove all of that decal or leave it as 'a shunt that had happened on the previous stage'! I re-attached the front bumper using super glue, cut the front attachment pins from the chassis., and re-assembled the body chassis. Now in place I added the smaller items to the body, tyre decals from stash, exhaust alloy tubes, mud flaps and front night driving stage lamps. And later it was seen outside the workshop.. Paul Waymouth
Nice work, a great looking kit that I may just have to add to my ‘to do’ list
PatW
Thanks Paul. One thing I've learn't from this is to test fit more closely/often or build the kit and add decals after everything else.

PatW
Thanks guys. Yes Rothmans decals would look good but it was in the era of 'No Cigarette' advertising allowed.

Model looks great! Just so you know the FIA ban on cigarette manufacturers was well after the 80's, many kits come either without the decals or blank where the logos go, I had to buy seperate decal sheets for the HB logos that go with a sport Quattro trans kit I bought which was the car from the '84 monte carlo. Not sure if manufacturers are omitting them because of trademark or what but that car is the 1984 qatar winner and is 100% definitely supposed to have rothmans decals. You'll notice several other versions of that kit omit them all together or have the background logo with font omitted, I seem to remember the early versions of that kit being done that way. I personally think nunu should have just left that space blank instead of putting "racing" stylized as the rothmans logo, I've never seen that before and the car certainly never raced in that livery. I know a few companies make correction add on decals for that 24011 kit, like bsmodels.be Car still looks great though!
Typ44
Heres a pic of the actual car raced by Al-Hajri and Spillman. Edited August 19, 2022 by Typ44 grammar
PatW
Thanks for your comments Howard. When our youngest had his first VW Beetle it needed chassis work, a 1600cc engine and suspension lowering for the Cal-Look era. We took it to a Porsche rebuild specialist about 20 miles away. His workshops had these, 356's and other 911's all being rebuilt to 'as new' condition. They still build early 911's for race and rally. Typ44
Indeed they do, you can even get a modern take on them by companies like Singer. Porsche also returned to rally in the FIA R-GT cup in 2014 but my personal favorite is still the sc rs that Prodrive campaigned with Rothmans racing like the kit you built, and of course the Rothmans livery is legendary on Porsches. PatW
Yes Howard. Prodrive is about 20 miles from us, so we see various cars being tested on our roads in camo. Mainly when they had the Subaru contract. We also see various camo Aston Martins as well as their test track is also near Banbury, as was the test facility for Rang Rover where my brother in law worked for many years in a test driver capacity. We were at the Williams F1 Workshops in 2018 where they have their joint build facility for Singer 911's in the UK.

We used to when I was growing up but obviously not nearly as popular over here in the u.s. I also really like the 90's and early 2000's imprezas Prodrive campaigned in WRC, its on my mile long list of kits to acquire.
PatW
But it's also interesting to note that although we started the WRC here in UK, this year like last we do not hold a round of the WRC this year! We are not part of the calendar!
