absmiami Posted September 12, 2022 Author Share Posted September 12, 2022 Here’s what went wrong the Bradford HRM Daytona body appears to have mastered based upon drawings published in 1964 in the English Model Cars magazine - these drawings were generally good - but the artist often did not have detailed measurments - so mistakes were made … the wheelbase was correct but the body measurments differ from those done by an architect who measured 2287 - since the body length is too long on the Model Cars drawings - the bonnett got short shifted to come up with the right wheelbase … 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is going to be more work than I thought. Teardown complete except for sawing off the heavily glooed roll bar fairing and interior bits. Getting the wheels out of the tires without destroying anything was as close to brain surgery with a chainsaw and a hammer as I'm likely to get. The builder apparently used what remained of the tube after assembling everything else to make sure the wheels would hold together at 200MPH. Testors/Italeri 250 GTO, with Deeks wire wheel centers (which I may or may not use), to be race #32. Though I prefer the proportions of the Gunze GTO (the only other Ferrari GTO kit I haven't moved west yet), this one has the correct rear wheel arches and lips, and a slightly flatter nose that looks,to me, more like the Sebring #32 car...but it needs an additional gill on each front fender. Kit had been lightly started. Front lower pan sawed off, templating gills to add one forward. Roughly transferred initial drilling guide. Now once this change is made I’ll probably lose the scale correct wheelbase - but the plus is that the engine comparent will look better - and the bonnett will look correct - its the best we can do until someone sits down at a computer and draws a correct Daytona for 3D printing [any takers?] Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Squirted some primer on the body to see what I've got , looks pretty good.. Borrani's assembled, the one at an angle has been painted with a dull aluminum and added the chrome knockoff, looks like I will not be using the Dunlops, need to source some Goodyears... absmiami Posted September 17, 2022 Author Share Posted September 17, 2022 Here’s an interesting thought - Ford’s factory entries were often campaigned by competing teams - including Shelby - so IF the Sebring entries had made the race - it is quite possible that they would have carried contrasting liveries - maybe the white / flat blue nose on 101 - but maybe 102 in different livery ??? absmiami Posted September 17, 2022 Author Share Posted September 17, 2022 Probably just grow each kit part with some bits of Evergreen plastic - and I’ve got some 25th scale Webers in my parts box - the keys are to maintain the correct height and location of the rear axles and to make sire that the exhausts are clear of the suspension trailing arms - also deepen the crank case and open the chassis base plate for the bottom of the engine - see Mr. Ditton’s GT40 build .. Gramps46 Posted September 18, 2022 Share Posted September 18, 2022 I just found this white metal Gurney Westlake engine in my cleverly labeled Engine Kits box. It is larger than your kit engine and smaller than 1/24. It was produced by R&D Unique prior to becoming MiniExotics and has pretty good detail. It looks reasonably good but I will need to review dimensions and see what I can do about the wheels prior to seeing if it will slush mould. If someone turns up with a resin kit offer them the slot.
