77 Chevy Van

Here's my static built Revell 77 Chevy van. The reason it's static is due to a set of wheels I purchased on ebay. They were advertised as 1/24 scale but looked more like 1/18. Disappointed I decided to push on. After some thought I decided on the van as it was a big body which may just work. So after quite a bit of cutting I ended up with this. All comments and / or criticism's encouraged.

Very sharp Chevy van!

I like the color and the paint finish, especially the graphics. The wheels do look a little oversized, but that is a styling trend. Clean exterior trim.

Those huge wheels do work on your van, as does the paint/graphics. That's what vanners did/do.  Really nice build.

I like how you used the kits decals against the blue body color. I think it looks better than the white that the box art shows.

Thanks Mathias, in Australia we had the panel van. It was a mix between an El Camino and a van.

Those are really cool! I wish it would be possible to obtain a modern Holden Ute here. Although they are GM products, the design is very unique.

GM Holden ceased production 2 years ago and as a result the prices for them have gone through the roof. Here's a pic of a more modern version.

This would work for me. We had what was referred to as Sedan Deliveries thru the 1960's. They were based on then current two door station wagons usually with the side windows blanked off. They never sold all that well, though there are those that still find them very desirable. I think what finally killed them here was when Ford and Chevrolet started offering them based off of the Pinto and Vega, neither of which were all that popular anyway. While a little morbid and meaning no disrespect, I saw a news clip of Queen Elezabeth's Mercedes Benz hearse on TV and think that wouild make an interesting vehicle be it kit or 1:1 scale.

Funny you should say that. My very first kit was a 1/32 Cadillac hearse which had a beatnik surfer theme.

I lived for many years in both southern and northern California and while not a surfer myself I knew several and would often see the vehicles they would use. The post war Woodies were the most prized it seemed, but there were more than a few old hearses around. Most any station wagon was popular as were sedan deliveries, but they were hard to find in operational condition. I still get nostalgic whenever I see a Woody or a Sedan Delivery.
