Chevy Engine Orange

Does anyone make a Chevy engine orange paint?  I know Testors use to, but can't find it anymore. I can find it in the Dupli-color engine paint brand at the auto parts store, can that be used on styrene plastic?

Scale Finishes makes a Chevy engine orange. If you can't order it, you can always buy a spray can of Chevy Orange engine enamel from your local auto parts store. Hope this helps.

Model master specifically makes a “Chevy engine red”.

Yes, it’s what I use , I still prime the parts first though. ( with duplicor primer )

If you really want Chevy Engine Orange, as for an early '60s small-block, Testor Orange is a decent match. 

If you want Chevy Engine RED, as on all rat motors and some hi-perf small blocks (such as LT-1) that's a different color--a brilliant red-orange. The old Model Master stuff was perfect but no longer available. But if you're airbrushing, you can mix it up fairly easily out of Testor #3 red and their orange.

I shot one with the Duplicolor engine paint over Tamiya pink primer and it came out great IMHO. Using a primer definitely helps the engine paint cover better with fewer coats (again IMHO). One thin coat covered very well and it agreed with the Tamiya primer.

Thanks guys. I'm not a perfectionist, so anything close will work. I'm working on a 69 Nova 350 right now but want something I can use for most of the Chevy engines.

If you have an airbrush and don't want to order or buy new paint, you can just mix your own using enamels or acrylics.

If you're not a perfectionist, basically any orange will do the trick.

 

I mix my own engine colors often using Testors flat enamels, thinned with lacquer thinner and then clear coated to achieve the desired shine.

I look at Chrysler and Chevy orange as being basically interchangeable, as I do Mopar, and early 60s Buick and Pontiac turquoise/blue.

I get it, they're all a little different, but even looking at photos of 1:1 engines on line is going to get you several variations for each color.

 

Honestly, I could never quite understand the obsession that some modelers have with exact, correct engine colors, and yet they consider some Tamiya paint color "close enough" for a factory stock body color.

Been checking prices of some MCW, Dupli-color and others and I think I'll just use my Testors orange. I've got Testors Orange Enamel and Acrylic, I think either one will be ok.
