MPC Mail Truck ShowRod

Recommended Posts

I have 2 of these,1 mint and 1 builder. Im going to do the builder as a USPS ShowRod a little different than the Barris design. Its complete except the decals but I have some modern USPS signage to use. The original builder ,as usual with these old showrods, used way too much paint and glue but most of the paint came off and it actually came apart nicely, the steering still works. I have the original tires and wheels for the kit but I may try using wrinkle wall slicks and a more shallow spoke wheel . May also paint 50% blue bottom and 50% white with a red stripe to seperate the colors. The MPC/AMT 29 Ford Woody shares alot of chassis parts with this MPC kit.

Ken, how do you get these old kits apart so well?   Did you make your own decals ?   I enjoy your rebuilds of these old kits..

Sprue cutters and x-acto knife is all I use. Sometimes the parts come off in bad shape and either have to modify or turn to the parts box. As far as decals go , no I dont do them. This BedBuggy was one of the tougher rebuilds.

A little color this weekend and touched up the chrome wheels. I decided to use all original kit parts only,  except the decals , they will be aftermarket. Even tho' the kit came apart pretty good , I still have alot of glue and paint residue on most parts that need clean-up , and chrome parts need some minor attention.
