The Duel Truck, who makes a kit

Recommended Posts

Looking to make the Duel Truck in a future project, Is there any company that makes a 1/24 or 1/25 version of the Peterbilt 281/351, If not which model would be a good base to start a scratch version with?

Thanks Mike

IIRC Italeri 359 and get a Ebay resin nose.

Actually, the best kit to start with would be the AMT Peterbilt 359 kit. Preferably one of the very first "little window" issues. Kit number T500-500 or T500.

These kits can get a little pricy but sometimes can be found for a bargain, mostly on Ebay.

You'll then need to purchase a resin 351 conversion kit or scratchbuild the front end assembly yourself.

The conversion kit was mastered by Tim Ahlborn and can be bought through Bobby Griffen. bobby@griffendesigns.com.

The five hole Budd type wheels can be purchased through Bobyy as well.

The old tanker will need to be completly built from scratch as to my knowledge, there has never been anything offered in resin dealing with the trailer, other than the wheels.

Hope this helps.

I don't know how much help this will be, but I recall that FineScale Modeler had a feature article on building this truck back sometime in the early '80s. Perhaps someone with an FSM collection could help you there. If I remember right, it took a lot of kitbashing and scratchbuilding. Of course, that was a long time ago and things might be easier (or more difficult) today.

Wish I could help more,

Longtime model builder Bob Robinson, member of the SABA group out of Portland, OR built this rendition of the "Duel" truck a couple of years back. Just thought you might lke to see someone elses attempt at replicating it.
