71_Sears Posted November 5, 2022 Share Posted November 5, 2022 I am the proud owner of a 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Final Edition in Hunter Green metallic with a light tan leather interior. However, it is a big project to get it back together and on the road again. I always wanted to build a replica of it to go along with the rest of the collector cars in my family that I have built already. I stumbled across a 3D print 1991 Grand Wagoneer body on eBay and decided to snag it up and see how good or bad it is. Several weeks went by as it came overseas to America and I was surprised that it looks more accurate than the Revell Honcho pickup. I picked up an Ice Patrol Honcho at a model show a few weeks ago anticipating this as Hobby Lobby near me does not carry it any longer. The wheel base almost the same between the pickup body and the Grand Wagoneer body. I cut the locating tabs off the front suspension and lightly glued the front suspension where the wheelbase looked right with the body. Me being me, I like having a full detailed model versus a curbside non opening hood kit. So I cut the hood free and tried up the edges. Later on I added some thin strip styrene to make up where the hood was cut so it sits high enough. The inner fenders were cut out of the pickup body and lightly glued to the core support and test fit in the Grand Wagoneer body. Surprisingly they fit fairly well and won't need much work. The back of the Grand Wagoneer grille was modified so it fit up snug against the core support. The battery was cut out and flipped essentially turning it into a battery tray so a more accurate looking battery could be used and also lower the battery down so it clears the thicker hood of the Grand Wagoneer. I started in on the interior tub by cutting off what I do not need and gluing a piece of sheet styrene to the back of the pickup interior tub to lengthen the floor for the back seat area. I cut some blanks for door panels and I will work on those later once I get the full floor done and fitting properly. The engine in it for testing purposes is a 1/24 scale Dodge 318/360 from a Ramcharger kit. Not sure which avenue I am going with my real 91, AMC 360 or Dodge 318 but the model will reflect that. I will post more progress as I continue on with the project! The very last last thing I did today was correct the front axle, I am sure some of the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer people out there noticed that the pumpkin was on the wrong side for a later Jeep. I cut the guts out between the leaf springs and cut the axle tube off. I filed the pumpkin flat and smooth on both sides and glued the pumpkin to the drivers side and cut a section of sprue tree down to fit and glued it in place. 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I found it searching on Google for "resin Grand Wagoneer" The eBay seller has them on his site off and on both a 91, and an earlier Wagoneer but with incorrect tail lights. Jordan White Posted November 5, 2022 Share Posted November 5, 2022 Interesting build idea! If you didn’t already know, the Grand Wagoneer axles are narrower than the J10 axles. If you wanted to be accurate in that regard, it looks like you could take about an eighth inch off each wheel back stud (difference between front and rear would be negligible at this scale). I am aware of the difference in axle width. The wheel backs and tires currently on it are just for mockup until my wheels and tires arrive from Fireball Modelworks.
