As seen In the mock-up thread. This is the Monogram issue from 1973. It's been in my stash since the early 90s. And yes, I painted this seafoam color back then pretty much on everything. I'm planning on something else for sure.

The wheels and tires are from Jay's resin wheels on ebay. They are both resin 3d printed. They are pretty nice. What you are seeing is the scale 20"/21" Speedway style.

I added a little chrome around the rim and center cap. With all the handling I'm doing, I can see I'll have to hit them again before it's all over. I did mix up some grey with the craft paint for their faces.

So far, I've pretty much got the ride height and the steering under control.

in the preliminary, I set the lower control and worked my way up. The inner holes are a mistake.

Next came the parts tree spindles. They have to be as close as possible to identical if you want all 4s touching the ground. The upper control is spare plastic mounted to the inner fender.

I get the feeling this will be a long term project.

Like the front suspension setup. The wheels and tires look great, might want to check the directional tread pattern on the passenger side tires before final assembly. Kinda like the body and fender colors depending on what you're wanting this to look like.

Thanks David. The front suspension is a little bulky but the big front fenders will hide them for the most part. Yeah I noticed the tread pattern. I'll keep that in mind when i glue them to the rims. Lots of handling the rims going on now and they will need a refresh too. That's why the tires aren't permanently mounted yet. I have a different color in mind for sure.

As you know, when you have a kit for a long time sometimes pieces will get lost. As is with the case of this truck. Half of the door hinges are missing.

I wasn't looking forward to it but I had to fabricate them. I used scrap pieces of sheet styrene and a straight pin. I'll secure them in place after I get the body stripped. I'll be using 2 pins for each door. This is just the mock up and proof of concept phase.

I've been racking my brain about a color when my first thought months ago was patina. Is patina a color?

This is what I originally wanted to do a few months back when I rusted up the '53 Bel Air. The truck was molded in orange so I figured I would see what happens if I sand away the seafoam in some spots and give it a black wash. I kinda like it. Maybe I'll hit it with a matte clear.

The running boards have a hole in them for the exhaust stacks. I'm not gonna use that type of exhaust so they have to be filled.

I've decided to use the Revell '37 Ford engine and possibly the seats. I tried to clean up the firewall and sanded away the reinforcing. I glued some styrene strips back in place. The original battery is too big and will hit the valve cover so I grabbed a smaller one from the salvage yard.

I got the bed box all stained up and tacked in place too. I was going to drill out the tailgate hinges and make them functional but it was so sloppy I felt it was best to just make it secure. Next I'll finish up the running boards and hang the rear fenders and taillights.

that's it for now.

I added shelf paper with wood grain to the running boards. The fenders looked like they needed some attention so I sanded them down and removed the mold lines then shot them with some gloss craft acrylic. I mixed it 2:1 with IPA 70 at 15psi. I'm learning new techniques as I go. Seems to be working out.

I went over the wheels again with the chrome pen and glued the tires on. I got a good look at the tires. The ones they sent are directional but are identical as the lettering is on the same side on all 4 tires. I'm betting whoever drew up the file only created one tire not both.

began work on the engine and pipes too.

It's looking awsome Steve. It would be a shame to box it when your so close. Mathias has good advice, I also step away from builds quite often so as to evaluate and refresh. I look forward to seeing your finished build.

Cheers, David. 😎👍

Pretty much the only thing left to do is the interior. I'm running out of steam. I'm at the point I want to be done with it. It might be time to box this one up until I'm ready again.

I dig it. Don't give up but take your time and don't rush it. It's too kool to just slap it together so you can call it done.

That's just too funny, if my son built models that one detail would drive him bat guano crazy.
