NOBLNG Posted November 24, 2022 Share Posted November 24, 2022 This is an old Monogram kit that I got already built for five bucks. I have never done a 3 window so I had to snag it.🙂 It was never painted and the roof had some gaps where it was glued on so I decided to refurbish it. I’ve disassembled it and re-fitted the top and fixed the ill-fitting deck lid. I did a motor swap since I don’t like having a Chevy motor in a Ford!😬 I salvaged the back half of the exhaust system and fabbed up some mid pipes. I also got rid of the torque tube and fabbed a driveshaft from aluminum tube and resin u-joints. I may do a wheel swap if I can find something I like in the parts box. NOBLNG Posted November 27, 2022 Author Share Posted November 27, 2022 (edited) A bit more progress on this one. I have the wheels and radiator mounted solid now. I couldn’t get the tie rod to sit nice, and it’s way too short anyways, so I lengthened it with some .033” wire. I scratch built a new drag link also since there is no real connection point at the knuckle. I have the body ready for paint now I think. NOBLNG Posted December 8, 2022 Author Share Posted December 8, 2022 (edited) I should have left well enough alone. I sprayed some acrylic clear and the first coat went on nicely. The second coat crinkled on the doors. The roof, trunk and fenders are fine. So I gave the doors a light sanding and put another coat on and got the same results. Do the light sanding and a good washing, then let it sit for a few days before more clear. Or use the dehydrator. I'm sure it'll turn out looking great! I might try polishing it out? The bronze is a Tamiya acrylic and it sat in the dehydrator for a long time before the clear. The clear is a spraybomb from Rondex that I bought for fixing the door hinges on the wife’s Jeep. After sanding it down again, I decanted a bit of the clear and sprayed a couple really light coats through the airbrush before a heavier coat from the can. It’s not perfect, but probably as good as a repaint might turn out.🤔 I added a little houndstooth upholstery to the interior even though it isn’t too visible in there.
