Snake45
Just got email notification that a new '67 El Camino in "1/24" is available from Jada. Anybody seen one of these yet? If it's even close to right size, I'll be buying at least one. https://www.diecastmodelswholesale.com/products.php?product=1967-Chevrolet-El-Camino-Matt-Black-"Fast-%26-Furious"-Series-1{47}24-Diecast-Model-Car-by-Jada&showHidden=true Edited February 18 by Snake45

espo
Having owned a '67 El Camino years ago I'll have to check this out.
Geno
Yeah, let us know Rich. I'm interested in this if it's to scale. My Hellacious Widebody F&F Charger is extremely close to my DM Bullitt Charger. Edited February 12 by Geno

Can't wait to get into it. (I should receive the '67 Elky today or tomorrow.)

Can't wait to get into it. Re the Charger Widebody, looks like you got a better one than I did. The rear gold RT stripe is mis-printed--it's all the way at the rear of the trunk lid and doesn't match up with the side portions at all. Also, the passenger door won't close fully, and looks like maybe the driver door isn't closing 100%, either. Oh well, that's what Snake-Fu is for.

Snake45
Got the Elky today. Overall first impression is VERY favorable as far as overall shape and "coolness" of treatment. One gig is that there are no window frames on the doors--the doors are hardtop style. That's fixable but not sure if I want to go to the trouble. The flat black does a pretty good job of camouflaging it. Haven't done a detailed size/scale analysis yet. It's a little shorter than the widebody Charger, a little longer than the Maisto diecast '66 Chevelle but that one might be closer to 1/25 anyway. I'm sure it'll look okay on my 1/24 shelf; if not, I've got a couple other over-scale diecasts it can sit with. I'll try to get pictures up tomorrow with a Revell '67 Chevelle body for size comparison. Preliminary rating: Snakeworthy!
Snake45
Okay, I've had a chance to take a better look at it and take some pics. Disclaimer: Flat black is not easy to photograph. (Neither, for that matter, is gloss black, as we'll see.) Or maybe I need a new digital camera—mine's now officially old enough to buy hard liquor and handguns. First question with any Jada product is, what scale is it really? More on this later, but long story short, the wheelbase scales to 1/24.3, which is as close as you're gonna get with a Jada. Second question with any Jada is, how cartoonish is it? This one's not bad at all. The only deviations from stock are the very modest and tasteful cowl induction hood, and the rear wheel tubs which aren't hideously obvious unless you're looking for them. The modern big wheels and tires are also surprisingly tasteful and good-looking for Jada. Overall shape looks VERY good. My biggest complaint is that there are no window frames on the (opening) doors. This can be fixed but would require a bit of time and effort I probably won't be taking at this time, but maybe later. The flat black finish does a pretty good job of hiding it. But notice this makes the chromed vent window frames look very thick and oversized. Oh well, I'll live with that for now. Chassis is one-piece and apparently of the Pro Street or Pro Touring flavor. The front tires are much too wide to be Pro Street. With these wheels/tires and the lowered, raked stance, the whole thing has a bit of a NASCAR-y vibe which (IMHO, of course) really looks good on this model. Interior has a full roll cage, a factory-ish “sport” steering wheel, a pair of non-factory bucket seats, and a modern shifter. The hood opens—just barely—to reveal some sort of modern-ish engine, all black. Here it is compared size-wise to the nice Danbury Mint '68 El Camino, which also scaled out to 1/24.3. As you can see, the two are very close and would sit on the same shelf together quite nicely. I said I'd compare it to a Revell '67 Chevelle body. While looking for one, I came across the diecast Ertl '67 Chevelle SS I did a couple years ago, so used that for the comparison. The Ertl Chevelle scaled to 1/25.4. So the Jada Elky is naturally a little bigger, but not enough that the two couldn't sit on the same shelf if need be. Can the Jada Elky be reworked to factory stock? Yah, but it would be quite a bit of work. Frankly, I rather like the whole look and sit of the murdered-out thing, as-is, and this one won't be getting any more than first-degree Snake-Fu from me. Will be interesting to see if Jada releases other variants of this one in the future. Overall rating: Snakeworthy!
Gramps46
Thank you kind sir for the review and photos. Very much appreciated. If I got one I would probably go for a stock look and if I went that far I might as well settle for a Danbury Mint '68. Until I saw the prices they are going for! Was looking at it again last night and discovered that the bed is a separate plastic piece, which raises the hope they COULD eventually do a stock version (with no tubs). I checked on DM '68 Elkys on ebay last night. Several of them on there with prices both north and south of $100--I think the lowest I saw was in the 70s. Which isn't bad for as nice a model as it it. I bought mine at the local toy show a few years ago for $25, no box, but it DID include the accessories (spare tire, bed cover, etc.).

First thing I had to do was fix the doors--without that, everything else is a waste of time. I spent about an hour filing out the hinge on the right door, and finally got it to where it ALMOST closes. Next step will be to see if I can get the mis-printed gold stripes off without ruining the flat black paint. We'll see where it goes from there. If you haven't started a thread on yours by the time I get mine presentable, I'll start a thread on mine.
