I picked this up at the NNL last weekend. I used to own this kit when I was a kid and remember it fondly. It was marked as built at $15. I asked the vendor if that was the best he could do and said he would take $10 for it. It appeared to be all there so I went for it.

When I got home I disassembled it and sprayed the body and interior with my preferred paint remover. While the parts soaked, I freshened up the engine a bit.

so far I've added a distributor, plug wires with boots, a coil, fuel lines, openings for the heater hoses and carburetor linkage with a return spring. The plan is metal flake blue exterior with black interior.

I keep a can of Easy-Off around for chrome removal but found it wasn't great for the paint I was trying to remove. I should probably give it another try. Some paints are pretty stubborn, I guess. 😕

I get good results stripping chrome using bleach

What type of bleach and how long does it take to do the job? I like this idea. 🙂

any household bleach, ten mins and the chrome will be mostly gone, it wont touch the primer under the chrome though so if you want it gone you need a normal stripper. as a bonus you can use the leftover bleach to clean the toilet afterwards and keep the missus happy

It doesn't have to be a name brand, the store brand regular (unscented) bleach is fine. The Dollar Store kind does absolutely nothing. Like Les said, it works almost immediately. Then rinse and wash with Dawn, and you're good to go.

Good start. These kits build up nicely, but do watch the front-to-rear spacing of the wheels within the wheel wells. I recall having to tweak the fit just a bit to get them properly centered.

the guy who had this before me lettered the tires. He didnt do a bad job but I think I'll look for some preprinted ones.

. I had to see what she looks like with the body on the chassis

Your second pic shows what I was referring to, the kit sets the wheels a little too far to the rear. I think I just shaved a little from the front of the spring, and maybe redid the front perch. The real deal:
