Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?

As there seems to be about a dozen different 'Community Builds' and a 'Jairus' challenge going on, I figured it would be appropriate to join the fray with something different (but so alike!). This is to gauge interest in a Ford Fox-Body community build. It wouldn't start until sometime mid-summer (July 1st or so) and would be open to all of Fords Fox cars (1978 Grenada/Zephyr/Fairmont platform), 1982-85 LTD LX, 1979-93 Mustang (including the 1984-86 SVO and the various McLaren/ASC variants), 1979-86 Mercury Capri (again, ASC and McLarens welcome), Lincoln MkVIIs, 1980-88 Cougars, 1980-88 Thunderbirds.......you know, 'those' cars. Any takers? Post here and maybe we can get something going (and maybe it will force me to actually finish a build!).

List of participants so far:

futurattraction : 1978 Futura Pro Stock (scratchbuilt)

davezinn : 1979 Cobra and 'Vanilla Ice' 5.0!

Jordan White : Revell 1993 Cobra

Wagoneer81 : 87 Thunderbird (turbocoupe converted to a V8)

highway : 82 Earnhart racing 'Bird

Abell82 : 93 LX

Fletch : some sort of cat or bird

Eric Stone : 79 Cobra

modeler : Maybe a 1979 Mustang Cobra with EFI conversion

NJ-Wayne : 93 Cobra twin-turbo and a 79 Cobra 2.5T stroker

Tony T : 85 SVO Mustang and #1 Whistler Mustang T/A effort

Casey429 : 93 Mustang Cobra (old build resurrection)

Harold : 84 Thunderbird

Mark Brown: 93 Cobra tube chassis car or 85 SVO (whoever gets there first!)

3men2s: 83GT (custom)

gregbbear: IMSA Fox (Whistler Mustang)

Jeff Johnston: IMSA Motorcraft Mustang and 1979 Pace Car

wheelman: 1993 Cobra

GTMust: Cafe Racer Mustang (Monogram kit)

whale392 : 1983 Mustang GLX Convert and a 1991 Mustang GT Hatch (model of his real car)

Finish time frame HAS BEEN EXTENDED from Jan 01-2011 to Jul 01-2011.

Closed as a CBP thread as of July 1-2011. REOPENED AS AN OPEN-ENDED FORD FOX HAVEN AS OF JULY 1-2001. NO END DATE.

Race cars will work as well. Street, race, show, mild custom............a Fox qualifies you!

I too have about 45 Fox kits (if not more) in my stash; my problem is I have 4 real Foxes and I keep putting the model builds off because I keep working on the real ones and want to replicate them in scale (but the real ones change fast enough that the plastic can't keep up!).

Spyder; thanks for the point-out of the delete button, I finally figured out that I had to select what I wanted the post to do from the arrowed box at the bottom. Thank you my friend, I learned something new about the forum today that I will remember.

How long do you all think the build should go for? End of the year or a full year from the start time? I build slow (thanks to life getting in the way and my inherent laziness), and I know others do too. That is also why I suggested July 1st as a start time, as it would give others time to finish up other build commitments and gather the supplies needed for this build. Thanks for the input guys; I haven't done anything like this and am glad for all the help. I love the Fox cars, and I know others do too.

After some consideration and input from participants here, I think June 1st 2010 to Jan 1st 2011 seems ample time (and for those wanting to start early I see no objection to it). Also, being that the Fox4 cars (1994-2004) were based on Foxes but carries radically different styling, I can see your question being a good one.........but it will be limited to the 'true' Ford Fox-Body.

Right now, we have one confirmed 1993 Cobra, and I will be working on a 1983-84 Convert. once we get some vehicle confirmations, I will start the participant list and vehicles.

Thanks guys!

I'll be in! I have to see what I have exactly I'm going to enter, but off the top of my head it will either be an 82 Dale Earnhardt T Bird stock car or an 86? T-Bird pro stock dragster.

OOPS, I guess rereading the years, my Earnhardt "Box Bird" doesn't fit!

I'll have to dig in and see what I have I'm in I have to figure what to use. Also dumb question... What body is a Ford EXP? I know it's not a Fox but what is it?

I'm not sure, but wasn't the EXP a hopped up Escort?

The more the merrier! No limit to personal entries......I have 14 Foxes started right now, so picking just one for this was merely a matter of finding the one that had the LEAST amount of scratchbuilding needed to replicate one of my real cars!

This is open to all scales the Fox was produced as a kit in (1/20, 1/24, 1/25, 1/32) and all kit manufacturers (Revell, Monogram, AMT, MPC, Testors, AAM, Reliable Resin, AFXnScale). Mild custom, full custom, drag, road-race, stock....no problem.

The 1980-2 Thunderbird was a Fox, too...so the Earnhardt "Box Bird" is a "Fox Bird"

Thanks for the info Mark. I was going on the years Bradley had posted.

Highway...you're good (list amended and moved to first post for ease of sight and updating).

I am basing mine on one of my real cars; a Triple Black 1983 GLX convertible. However, it will differ as the model will have the 5.0/5spd swap (real car has the 3.8/auto) and sport seats (real car has vynil low-back buckets).

If I'm not mistaken, I think the older ASA roundy round T-bird kits have a V6... How close would one of those be as a starting point for your 3.8?
