Let's see your Chevy S10!

grimreaper: Sorry to hear your wife's having the same luck I am with SSDI. For me it's a broken neck (C2 and C4,plus other damage) from a trucking accident (codriver wrecked me as I slept) back in 2001. I worked up until the government actually put me out of work,"unemployable" in 12-08,been begging for it ever since (as in,they won't LET me work, any kind of job,but still refuse to pay me...and I'm a vet...). The only time I'd put a V8 in this one is when the 4.3L needs retired,LOL,but when that day comes,if a new truck doesn't,then yeah, teeheehee! I won't fathom a guess on what you paid though...just tell me,LOL!

Jared Roach: Sounds like some sweet plans you have in store for yours, and KILLER on such low mileage! I hear ya about the income/job thing (see above,LMBO!). Be sure to keep it updated,I'm interested to see it's progress :D

Even when the 4.3 goes, I'll just rebuild it or buy a new one,a V8 just doesn't make sense to me in a mini. I only paid $850 for it, put about $100 into it a few days later for a new brake line from front to rear, pads, rotors and calipers. Most recently a battery and water pump. Otherwise I'd drive this truck across the country with no worries.

My wife was hit by a drunk driver back in 01 (she was on foot) and fractured her L7-L9 vertebrae. Doctors say she can never work again but the government is still being stupid.

OUCH (on your wife),I hope she's coping well with it now,Brother. Believe me when I say I know how neck/back pain feels. When I had my ALJ appointment last February (the court date),that SSDI "Occupation Specialist" herself told the judge I was unemployable for "any type of gainful employment/work". Later, after 2 more denials, there OWN doctor they sent me too told them I was completely disabled and could not work....that was 2 denials ago, sigh. I guess if they keep turning me down,I'm going to play the "Disabled 'Storm vet cries out to the media" card :D,cause 2 adults and 2 kids living on her income of $1,300 per month...sucks,hard.

NOT a bad price at all,Brother. A bit less than I'm getting mine for,LOL! You scored there

Some days she can't do anything at all around the house (and we have a 3 yr old). She manages for the most part.

Yeah, I got a great deal on it. He wanted $1000, but after I took it for a drive and found a few MINOR issues I asked him what the lowest was he'd take, he stuck his own foot in his mouth and said $850. As it sits it's worth $2350.

I know the feeling, some days I get a little pressure on the (spinal) column, and walking's almost impossible, other days,it just hurts like heck, but a few days,it feels fine...and then I overdo it. What has really sucked having only the one car for most of '10 till now is the walk to/from the school bus stop, some days it's a real pain, and I'll let em get off it in the evening alone and walk up themselves. Mine are 14 (next month, but she's already calling herself a 14 year old,LOL) and 8 (he'll be 9 May 13),so at least they can help me out a bit around the house. I HATE those days I can't walk to the bus stop in the eve though, pretty safe area, but this ain't 1973 anymore B)

Mine still wound up costing me $2,900 total (including deposit),but after looking at/seeing several both older and newer (only one as nice though),it's pretty close to half what they sell for in the area. The hlaf-way plan is to eBay my SS mtnbike (singlespeed),since my trail riding days are pretty much behind me (as is my fitness for singlespeeding,LOL) for $300 or so after shipping (a pretty good price for it),and try to sell her broken down (terminally, skipped time/warped head is my opinion) '00 Contour for $300 or so for parts, use that towards some of those parts I want for the Dime.

I have ONE AMT S10 Extreme (regular cab, obviously) kit, looks to be about a '94-96,on hand, and I scored a similar vintage Sonoma kit on eBay for $10 (inroute via USPS as I type)...the dude had 3 of em,I wanted 2 (and he combined shipping) plus that S-Blazer I also scored, but I couldn't swing 3 kits this payday (usually can't,LOL). I want to get one more,so I can build both a standard and extended cab versions. Pretty sure I'll hack up that Sonoma kit for the extensions needed for a S10 extended cab,and build either a replica of mine,or how it should be sitting by year's end. I also have an old NIB Revell '91-93 3 n 1 S10 kit (1st gen),a NIB sealed rerelease of Revell's Sonoma Syclone, and a 98% complete first release Syclone kit (molded in black) that I'll make a regular and extended cab versions of. I also called my buddy at the LHS,and he's set me back a couple more Syclones,so's I can build another varient, and one factory stock version of it....you know, assuming my model-building-gumption gets as big as my plans do,LMBO! I'd love to find another AMT Extreme kit (or SS),build one regular cab too, pretty much OOB (plus added details),as I really liked the ZQ8 package...matter of fact,I wouldn't mind owning a 2.2L/5 speed '98-03 Extreme (ZQ8) regular cab in 1:1,and make the '96 a project full time till done, teeheehee

I ALMOST had her talked into a '98-03 S Blazer 2 door as a replacement for her Neon in a couple years when Jamie (daughter) gets her claws into it with new driver's license in hand, she said..."It'll be a little old,but I like em. I'll lose my 33-36 MPG's (literally, thata's what she averages in the '02 Neon ES automatic),but gain 4WD for winter time...yeah,maybe!" until I let her catch me looking at slammed Blazers no longer sporting the 4WD gear, with 22's and LS-somethings under the hoods,LMBO! :P

I've got 2 of the Xtreme kits and 2 of the 94 S-10 kits and I'm ALWAYS searching for more. I'm a truck guy all the way.

I've wanted an S-10 since I got my licence in 96 and when I came up on this deal I couldn't pass it up. The plans for my resin X cab are to build it the way my 1:1 will eventually look and then pick up another one for a build of how it sits now, rust and all. I never really like the 1st gen. S-10, but have always loved the 2nd (and 3rd gen.). What I want most is to swap out the cab for a 3rd gen. with the 3rd door.

Mark-did you use CA (super glue) glue on it? That's the only thing I can think of of the top of my head that would do that to kit "glass".

Grim-This is the first 2nd gen (I consider '94-03 2nd gen,Colorado's being 3rd) I've owned,it has the 3rd door,BTW. My Dad and several friends have owned '94+ models, and I always liked em,but by the time I decided I wanted one,the days of more money than sense were gone-now I have too little of either,LOL! (meaning the time after I wasn't able to work anymore vs the trucking long haul days). I have owned a few 1st gens tho,an '88 4x4 Sport (a really nice old truck, despite the anemic 2.8L/automatic),and a pair of '91 2WD's that I static slammed (that last one was pretty much like an old Harley...a hardtail,LMBO!) on the same set of Camaro/Corvette Rallies (15x6/15x8 wrapped in 205/60's and 265/60's),the last one having had a decently built 350/400TH combo.

Update on my personal fight for SSDI. I knew I had a second court hearing coming soon for the last few weeks. I just got off the phone with my lawyer up in KY. They got word from the judge today (different judge than last time) that he has a full caseload, and doesn't want a "disabled veterean to have to secure a ride all the way there and then sit all day waiting for his docket to come up",and wants me to go see MY LAWYER'S OWN DOCTOR to be evaluated one last time, and that he'll make his decision solely on what that doctor finds. This is to be next week's Friday at high noon. So in my lawyer's own words,"This is MOST LIKELY (emphasis his) the time" I get approval :D:D Due to the way that judge last year did everything, any backpay owed me before 3-10 was lost, but that's still a year's worth of $1,808 before he takes his 25%. Y'all keep yer fingers crossed fo rme,I'm tred of begging the neighbors for TP for the kids (didn't feel it politically correct to ask for prayers,so...). :D

Nope...used some sort of white glue (probably 560 Canopy glue but I don't remember anymore). I've probably built 500 kits over the years, maybe more...this is the first and only time this has ever happened. Never seen anything like it before or since.

I dunno...never had that happen that I can remember.

And BTW,to everyone,I apologise,I didn't mean to hijack the thread the way I did

My Noma is accually my first car. My dad bought it in 01 used with 16,000kms on it. Since that first day I've always loved it and have always dreamed about making it mine.

I love the zq8 trucks, but I'm not a big fan of the extremes, just don't like body kits haha. I would love to have a 02-03 zq8 with 4.3/5 speed(non-extreme), which is REALLY rare, or even a 2door 4.3/5speed blazer 2wd(also REALLY rare lol).

Btw grim there isn't really such thing as a 3rd gen s-series. There's the 1st gen, and the 2nd gen, but you can call the 94-97 a 1.5 gen if you wanted. I also read above you wanted to do a 98+ interior upgrade, well it's ALOT easier to just buy a new truck, because you have to change pretty much everything.

GM actually considers the 98+ 3rd gen., ONLY because of the front end styling change and interior change.

As far as the interior, I don't plan on doing the dash right away. I only plan on seats and doors. I have to do the whole door because the inside door handles from the 98+ panels won't mate with the 94-97 doors, plus I plan to upgrade to power windows and locks. My truck is wired for them but it's all manual right now. When I start tearing it apart to bag it is when I'll swap the dash, IF I don't do a complete cab swap.

I'm not going to argue with you, but EVERYBODY I have talked to, and EVERYBODY on s10 forum and blazer forum call 94-03 s10's 2nd gens. They are the same except for the stuff you mentioned and a couple other little things.

Again I ain't picking a fight, but ask pretty much anybody that knows s10's will say there is no 3rd gen.

Everyone I know-including a friend of Dad's who's been a GM service-tech since the 60's,refer to "3rd Gens" as the Colorado/Canyons,FWIW.

I hope to get to see all your 1:1's as you make progress on em (and have a place you guys can see mine. I'm on S10forums.com as Olskooldime, and S10forum.com as Olskoolrodder,BTW,and my Yahoo IM,at least for now,is SSMtnbiker73).

I'm gunna have to get my bench cleaned off,get it washed down from dust/soot from the fireplace in the next couple days...I HAVE to finish a Revell '62 Impy by 1-31 (for a CBP on my forum),but I'm ANXIOUS to get on one of these Dime kits soon :)

Awe MAN...I shoulda let daBoss Lady go and pay her car payment today. Sitting there fresh on the lot is a low miles '01 Extreme extended cab/sportside bed,all shined up with nary a scrath on it. 2.2L/auto (ugh),87,000 miles. List on it is $5295 ($1900 down,150 per month),but for someone who's bought 3 there over the years (and known the dealer for 21 years) it'd be a bit less. I told daBoss Lady in lite of the real possiblilty of getting SSDI approval within the next month,I'd like to pull a favor (which he'd do) and see if he'd hold off putting it on the lot, cause if'n I gets approved,it'd be SO much easier to build the '96 the way I want to if I had a seperate driver :unsure: She rolled her eyes and said...."N-O!!!" ROFLMBO!!!

I may go look it over better Saturday and post pics. I HIGHLY doubt the possibilty of my ever owning it though...just wishful thinking (having 2 I like at the same time,LOL)

2.2/auto's are really slow, I mean I've driven one and it's NOTHING compared to my 4.3, trust me lol.

If you REALLY want a extreme, go buy the cladding and stick it on your truck. You can do the 98+ front end also, but you would need to change out the core support and other stuff.

What I'm saying is stick with the 96, and hold off on the extreme, or atleast till you find a 4.3, because the 2.2 just isn't great.

Yeah,I know,my Pops bought a brandy new 2.2L/5 speed back in the day. Thing I was looking at was,A) being an auto,SHE can drive it and might let me at least entertain the thought, and  was looking at better mileage for a daily, and I could pull the '96 into a garage and build it the way it's nearly impossible to build a depended on driver...she ain't gunna let me get TWO new-to-me trucks anyways,LMBO!

  • 3 weeks later...

I'll be starting an Square Dime project soon (in it's own thread). We just started our 2nd semi-annual CBP over on my board, with one class as a "Simple CBP",where nothing that did NOT come in the box, other than putty, paint and glue,is allowed,I'm building the Revell '93 Dime 3 n 1 for that, the other class is completely open to anything your imagination can conjure in 1:24/1:25 scale,so long as it's a truck...if I can muster having 3-4 ongoing projects,I'm jumping on that one too with a 2nd gen extended cab conversion or a '95 Blazer B)

Anybody else have anythign S10 model-project related going on?

I'm,of course,"Olskoolrodder" there as well. I haven't gotten started on it just yet (so no thread) for 2 reasons,1) I need to get going hard on a b-day present build for my daughter (b-day is the 25th...),and 2) I seem to have caught my wife's bad case of the flu,so no gumption,LOL! I'll be getting on it in the next couple weeks though (I'll send you a PM here with link when I do).

Here's my 1:1 off my Mini Truckin' "Reader's Rides" page. 1998 S10 Airbags with cantilever rear and 18x8.5 inch Panther Defiance rims. For the record, the wheels have a 4.75" backspace. I can still stick my finger between the wheel and the fender lip at all four corners and the lips are not rolled.
