the 353 revell western life kit

Recommended Posts

hey i know this is really a 359 model, but looking at photos it shows the drivers door open, does any other door open ? how detailed is the rest of interior, as in bunk area.

any comments on problems with model? i had asked some questions about this before, the other question i have is i see it hasd a roof air ######. are the holes pre drilled from the factory? if not how does it attach? i really dont want it on my model.

thanks

Grain the doors onthe cab both open and need a bit of work to get them to fit right , the sleeper is detailed inside as well I most times leave the roof unglued to show off the sleeper interier. Also there are no holes in the cab roof for the ac so as you said you wanted to leave it off.

I'm just building this kit now Gary - IMHO not a very good model - but good raw material. Lots of flash and injector marks. The model itself is kind of silly in that the 353 was a construction/hard duty plain jane - not the chromed show boat Revell made. The hood is wrong - should be butterfly - although I found one reference with a one piece tilt-hood. Almost all references show single exhaust- sleepers were very rare, though not unheard of. The pit-style fenders need work - only one reference of mine showed diamond tread - they should be flat steel. The front bumper is wrong - I had to fabricate another one. And almost all that chrome is going to have to go. If you need reference pictures let me know - they are not easy to find.

Questions about the accuracy of this kit have been raised before on the forum. But I cannot remember who or when the posts were made. One of the most noted authorities on any Peterbilt is Tim Alborn. Check Tim's web site he builds a real 353 and describes in detail the differences between the kit and reality.

Tim's web site:

http://www.timstrucks.com/

If you go to about 2/3 of the way down this page you will see Tim's version of a 353:

Hope this helps.

Yup - couldn't agree more - In fact Tim has been quite helpful in answering some of my questions and providing reference material. And his 353 is a real treat - I studied these pix long and hard - I'll post my finished work but you'll see Tim's influence on it for sure.

Check the link below. These are scans of the old Commercial Truck Modeller magazine, I don't know who hosts the Fotki site, but I'm greatfull to them, for the time and effort they have put in, to record so much extremely usefull data. There is a great article on the KW Alaskan Hauler and a very interesting article on the Pete 353 on page 22.
