The Lesser Known Sport/Muscle Trucks

Recommended Posts

Most may know the Chevrolet 454SS and the Ford Lightning, but both had lesser known Cousins that few think about, Jordan and I both have built replica's of these lesser known Sport/Muscle trucks and have deceided to share them together in one Under Glass post,

I'll give the specific's of my truck and Jordan can do the same.

'91 GMC Sierra ST- 350, 4spd Automatic, Shortbed Fleetside, Single cab, 2WD, 3 tone factory paint Scheme (Onyx Black, Crimson Red, and Quick Silver), SLE luxury Décor Package, Custom Cloth Reclining Highback Buckets and Console, Sport Handling Package Plus (Rear sway bar + Bilstein shocks), A/C delete, and a sliding rear window.

What I've built is the sort of predecessor to the Ford Lightning. The F-150 Nite included black paint, black low mount mirrors, body color bumpers and grille, aluminum wheels, and of course the signature blue/pink striping and badging. The Nite was actually introduced in 1991 on the previous design, but I decided to do the 1992 version using the newer body style.

Unlike the Lightning though, the Nite was offered in all the same body and drivetrain configurations as the regular F-150, in this case I've built the 2WD Regular Cab Short Box version.

I figured on making it a showroom fresh style, hence I made a window sticker for it as well as adding a decal onto the model's window. Also, the dealer plates are for Art Goebal Ford which was the same dealer where my dad bought his Aerostar back in 1989. They aren't around anymore, but my dad had an envelope with the logo he claims was on the dealer plates.

Nice job on these forgotten "sport trucks" guys!

As Dave said, there was no performance to these trucks, only appearance.

I bought a bright teal 1993 GMC Sierra GT new, it looked just like the Chevy 454SS package, but only available with the 350 B) Sure wish I still had it B) Someday in 1/25 scale!

The GMC was done with a custom grille from the AMT C-3500 street machine dually kit and some letters made from styrene, the decals, I did by creating the art then printing the decals.

Nick

and thanks everyone.

If the Siera ST had "AC Delete" why is there a big R4 compressor on the model?

Well :) 2 rearsons, 1.) the kit includes no A/C parts other than the Compressor, and 2.) I tryed adding the A/C parts from one of the S-Series truck kits but had problems.

any other nit picks?

Nick

Nick you’re contradicting yourself here... why mention that this truck came with "A/C Delete" and then add more A/C parts? Just seems goofy to say this truck came with A/C delete like that’s a big deal and then not delete the A/C on the model.

You do know that A/C delete would have meant this truck wasn’t offered with air conditioning right?

Other nit picks... the paint is not very smooth.

Other than than it seems like an interesting build

I think it's one of those deals where it would have been harder to modify the belt assembly to make the correct non-A/C routing, though he could have probably just made it an extra pulley and no one would have been the wiser.
