2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD

Hello,

My first post here.

I found this forum by googling for an apocalyptic car for inspiration for my new project.

I'm building a Mad Max inspired Pontiac GTO.

It's a die-cast on scale 1/18, I've always modded diecasts because it's a bit easier. Bad part is that the metal is kinda thick :P

The plan was to install a double .50, I ordered on in 3d print, in the boot or on the roof.

The GTO looks great Stimy. Perfect looking car for the apocalypse. It looks tough and has a great stance. More pics please.

Here's some of the progress I've made on the Econoline.I added bigger tires from the Ford Raptor kit.

The 50 cal machine guns that I ordered have shipped and should be here any day. If I can make a spot for it behind the sliding side door, that's where I plan on putting it.

The Raptor rims will be swapped out for these rims that came off an old tank model.

Stimy the weathering looks very good. I also like the addition of the intake through the hood. What are you putting in the trunk?

I received my dual 50 caliber guns in the mail. They're bigger in size than I thought they would be. I probably should have researched it in some videos to get an idea of the actual, real-world size. I also ordered dual 30 caliber machine guns that are much smaller. I haven't decided which set to use.

50 Cal mounted to a seat. I hope to have this slide out the side of the van and be able to rotate, but I think that's a bit too ambitious for my skill level. We'll see!

Door fully closed.

The gun/chair assembly fits behind the sliding door. It's a little cramped. The gunner's seat has to be in the full forward position and the guns have to be pointed down as far as they go. Also...I usually make a few different options as I build. These pictures show a different front bumper assembly. It's not as aggressive as the previous bumper.

The more aggressive bumper.

Hey Stimy, I painted the guns with a flat black primer. I just wanted to get an idea of what they'd look like. I'll do the final details a little later. I'm very happy with the guns so far. I love how they look, however, I need a glue that will bond to that different type of plastic. I use Tamaya extra thin on most of my models. It won't bond the type of plastic that is used in the 3D printing. The plastic is also very brittle. You notice it when cutting it with an Exacto blade.

I've put the van aside for now. I got frustrated with trying to mount the dual 50 caliber guns on the inside of the van. They fit with the side door closed, but had very little range of motion. So the Econoline is on vacation until I finish my new/old project, the Datsun 510 truck.

These are the old pictures. The Datsun was it's original chassis. I had tweaked the suspension to it's max to get the truck to ride at that height. I still wanted it to ride higher.

I had a chassis from a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that was the same scale as the Datsun (1:25).  The Jeep's suspension matched up to the Datsun wheel wells pretty close. Not a perfect match but close enough for a post-apocalypse rebuild. So I decided to just go for it. The ride height now reminds me of the old Toyota 4x4's that were popular in the late 80's.

Giant guns on a tiny vehicle. I had to do it.

I still have much left to do!

Here's where I'm at. I built 4 ammo boxes and some brackets to hold the boxes in place. I added some window screen material to the gunner's chair. I like the texture.

The shiny, 5 spoke Corvette rims were temporary. I found a good replacement. I had an old model of a 1/44 scale tank. I used the rims and made a few modifications. I think they turned out good. I'm very happy with the look.

Wow, this thread is still being fed lots of great eye candy.  Thank you all.

I've been following this post for about two years now. That's when I started my first post-apocalypse vehicle. There's been a ton of great ideas and builds here. Glad to be a part of it,

I'm still working on the Datsun 510 truck. It's getting close to being finished. I would like to add some junk and supplies to the bed. I also would like to add some spent ammo casings, but I'm trying to figure a way to create them easily, Nothing is coming to mind.

I added some cool looking vents inside the front wheel wells. No practical purpose, I just like the look.

I'm still at it, but my computer crashed about a month ago. I've got a Trans-Am that's startign to come together and a Pantera I'm working on. Both will be kinda OG Death Race Vibe. I've also got a hold of a Nissan Leopard I will be working into a Farcon replica.

Jason,

Great job on the above car. What did you use on the inner black part of the grill? The slotted holes. The grill looks great. The weathering is also very nice.

My next car is a 70 Monte Carlo. This car means a lot to me because my very first car was a 73 Monte Carlo. Great car! Great times in my life!

I've been wanting to build this for a while now. Here's the mock up. I may change the hood scoop.
