Cory22
From the back, the wall will look like this with the lath strips in place: Here's the back side of the wall in place in front of the former window opening. I still need to dirty it up a little bit. Again, not a detail that will jump out, but it adds a little more interest to the scene: Wow that is awesome! Im gonna try using that for my home garage dio i wanna build! Did you just use sticks for the boards or? This whole build is amazing by the way. Dr. Cranky
Folks, if you visit Mr. Hamilton's archives, you will see he has made more great progress: http://public.fotki.com/khamilton/models/playland_penny_arcade/
KHamilton
Here's a little bit of an update: I finished the insert for inside the Arcade building's doorway. There's a small ticket window to the right and a damaged wallpaper mural on the back wall: When the interior is in place it's not really obvious, but that's the idea.... Just something that looks like an entrance in the background.
Dr. Cranky
BE-AU-TI-FUL! It's all coming together really well, Hamilton. Hope you've been working out your arms because you are going to need the strength to carry home all the awards this diorama is going to win. KHamilton
....here's a little detail I can't resist sharing.... Remember that roof-top clothesline? Well, you can't have a clothesline without clothes pins..... I made about a dozen of these last night, using laminated .010" stripwood and Micro-ballons (used as filler for super glue & resin) for the round tops. Dr. Cranky
How you even begin to figure out the scale for it, amazing. Can't wait to see them on the line. You are now totally engrossed in the smallest of details, and the payoff is wonderful.

Dr. Cranky
For those of you going to the NNL East, you are going to be in for a real treat, my friends. Ken Hamilton has posted a new round of progress pictures over on his Fotki. http://public.fotki.com/khamilton/models/playland_penny_arcade/ Here's just one of the new pics to get you CRANKED UP:
dustym
Talented is one word that comes to mind but "master" better suits Ken. Very impressive, I think you outdid your self with this one. (bowing) I'm not worthy(bowing)
Dr. Cranky
And those of you headed to the NNL East tomorrow will get a real treat in person. I can't wait to see more photos of this one from the tables.

GTMust
I wish the NNL East was a lot closer to South Eastern Ontario, Canada! Tony
Dr. Cranky
Have fun and I hope this Diorama gets all the recognition it deserves, Hamilton.
gasser59
Well, I've tried to be patient but I'd like to know just how many awards and accolades this work of art took home. Ken - do you consider this one done and complete? Seems there is always more that could be done to a dio.
Dr. Cranky
Brad, last I heard it had won the "BEST IN SHOW" at the MAMA SHOW. I'm sure Ken is going to take this one around a few more places . . .
KHamilton
Brad, it didn't win anything at NNL East, but the comments were very positive and there was always a crowd around the model. I enjoy hearing people say they see something new each time they look at it, and Cranky's right - the diorama did take "Popular Vote - Adult" at the Mid-Atlantic NNL. No, it's not quite finished. I'd like to add framework for a big sign on the roof and a few other details here and there, especially the shelves on the fire escape. There is indeed always something to add. Thanks for asking! uncle potts
Ken I know I'm a late comer to this thread, but I have to say that every time I see your work I am amazed. I wish you were closer to the middle of the country, because I'm sure that pictures do not do your work justice. I would love to meet you in person and discuss building diorama's. I have built several, but none of my work compares to yours. I will keep looking for your work to show up here and see what new and creative idea you've come up with. Thanks alot for sharing, we all love what we see,and get a great deal of inspiration from your work.
