Many years ago my first ( and last LOL) scratchbuilding involved a 1/32 Airfix Escort Mk1 and some sprue to create a British interpretation of my favourite Funny Car at the time (I'm from England).

Needless to say, the chassis/drivetrain was pretty rudimentary, I can't remember anything about it other than the sprue, it must have looked like something out of The Flintstones :P

Hopefully my skills have improved over the last 40 years, so armed with a decal set from Slixx (RIP) and the latest reissue of the Jungle Jim Vega picked up on my Canada trip, I set about a version I'm willing to share publicly.

The kit had lots of flash and the separate front & rear ends didn't fit the body too well, so not a promising start . :(

Haven't attempted a proper candy sprayjob before, so was going to follow a method used by Tim Boyd in S*E some time ago using metallic red as a basecoat followed by red clear. However, I found some gold and thought what the heck, it's just a quick build so why not give it a try  ?

I was pleased with the gold/Tamiya red clear paintjob so on went some light clearcoats and the decals. The chassis and drivetrain are OOB except for the injector hat which is from a '62 Corvette (my parts stash is pretty meagre ).

I plan to get another kit and build a more detailed chassis to go under this body. Plus some of the more recent issues....

Nice job and great paint. That's one of my all time favorite funnies. I saw it run several times, it was a killer car when Foster was driving it. thanks for posting yor pictures!

Hi Paul,

That came out very nice. You managed to get the front and rear clips on so well nobody would know how rough they are to begin with.

I haven't given up on my JJ Vega build either. Just working more on the trailer and the van to start with.
