White Road Boss-what to watch out for?

Recommended Posts

Starting on a White Road Boss this weekend-any particular pitfalls, fit issues, etc., to be aware of beforehand? Also, does anyone know exactly what year, model, and engine type this is supposed to represent? Any help is appreciated-I haven't built an AMT truck kit in at least 30 years...

I haven't built this kit yet, but from what I hear the fit is pretty bad. The information that I have on this truck puts it as a 1973 with a 122" BBC and the standard AMT Cummins NTA370.

The hood is meant to NOT fit tight against the cab. The Road Boss hood floats over the cab cowl. This was to give the truck a streamlined look and give the appearance of a longer hood.

With that said, install the hinges to the grille, the grille to the hood and the hood to the chassis BEFORE installing the radiator (otherwise you will have a dickens of a time spreading the frame to get the hinge pins in the holes). Then test fit the cab to the hood to line it up. If you install the cab first, then you will never get it lined up right. This goes for the Autocar, Diamond Reo, RB and White-Western Star kits.

Also does the 5th wheel have to be move toward the rear of the frame more over the duels?

The Road Boss kit actually has the ntc 350 small cam Cummins and Spicer sst 16 also known as the 4x4 airshift. It is a 73 or 74 vintage.
