The lazy Sunday afternoon update. I started the wheelie bars using Ted's instructions. The recommended drill bit really helps. Most of the rod ends I had to whittle a bit to fit, so now they don't need any glue. I also made progress on the fuel pumps. The first pic is a mockup without the lower plumbing. Another identical tube will be added next to it and both will have hose clamps on the red tubing. Dave - I guess I missed it initially, but I like your braid-threading jig. I'm wondering why you have to glue the fitting. It seems like it would take quite awhile to plumb an engine - especially using white glue.

Can you hold the fitting in place and thread through it? What about slicing a small piece of tube (plastic or metal) with an ID to fit the OD of your fitting and just drop the fitting into it.

You'd also need a different size hole for each size of braid. Do you have these drilled in a line, on a single piece of stock?

Thanks guys. Progress has been slow lately. Other stuff gets in the way.

Ted- no, I've only tried the one size so far. Lately I've had some luck with cutting the braided line at an angle and feeding it through the fitting. Of course it doesn't always want to cooperate. I used white glue to hold the fitting to the styrene sheet so I had both hands free to feed the braided line and hold the sheet. But the idea worked really good. Lately I've been working with a different size line, so I haven't used that jig.

Bill and Chris - thanks for the encouragement. When I dropped the engine into the frame with the fuel pump and line for a mockup, I discovered that the oil filters are almost blocking a hole for a return line on the fuel pump. I'll have to figure something out there.

Thanks Jim. I was at Bruce Larson's Dragfest today and "just happened" to have two of your rims mounted with slicks and showed some of the car owners. One of the guys works for the company that has just started the Bruce Larson Tribute Car. It is an exact replica of the '68 USA-1 Camaro but will have NHRA approved chassis and safety equipment to run down the strip. He looked at your rims and said those are awesome. You model builders are crazy. It was a compliment. His coworker said these are aluminum? Really? Wow. The Micro Nitro legend grows.

It's time I got this funny car back on the front burner. I was distracted for awhile with a Pro Stock that I will post someday. I added the barrel valve and one of the fuel lines. Thanks guys. I appreciate it. Today I was fortunate enough to visit Bruce Larson's shop again to take a few photos that I had missed before and ask more questions. He is always willing to answer my dumb questions and give me full access to the cars. He was busy sorting some old photos to send to NHRA for an upcoming race in New Hampshire.
