What did you get today? (Model Car Related Items)

Recommended Posts

I'd already pretty much made up my mind to go ahead and get one of these, figgering they wouldn't get any cheaper, so when this one came up in a slightly damaged box for enough under current market to get me off the fence, I did. Nice kit, complete, no damage inside.

The plan is to bash it into a semi-replica of my daily-driver '62 double-cab I ran in the '70s (letting it get away in the early '90s was the second most stupid car mistake I ever made), but build it into what I'd envisioned it could be when I first got the thing. It was the color of this one, but not as nice, having a few rot holes in the rockers, and a caved in nose after I let someone else drive it...pretty easily fixable though. I bought it with a tired 40-horse (that snapped the crankshaft but still got me home and back to work the next day) for $250, and it never got farther along than a mildly warmed over 1600 dual-port. I miss it, almost every day. :(

I had one of these on my Amazon wishlist for a year or more in case anyone bought me one…which they didn’t.  The price on them dropped low enough this week though that I decided I’d wanted one long enough…

Amazon smooshed the box by shipping it in a padded envelope rather than a box, but it looks ok, luckily…need to start collecting some other parts packs now to be able to make the whole thing out of only period correct AMT parts

Got my Holden today. Way more parts in here than I expected. Thanks to Wes for the Hearns tip. Thanks to Hearns for the quick processing of my order. I wish the bumpers were plated, but I guess I can handle that. Amazing box and artwork.

Small parcel arrived today from Spotmodel (Spain):

2 sets of Renaissance Campagnolo wheels (for Dino 246 GT's and other period Italian sportscars), I had already one and they are simply great and

one set of 4 tiny white metal spring hood pins - intended for use with my Arii Chaparral 2 C.

Get yourself some of the little plastic cups used in the medicine field to mix the mica and clear along with a popsicle stick to stir.

Thanks for the ideas. I ordered 300 clear plastic shot glasses from Amazon for $9.99. I use sprue sticks for disposable stirrers. They are basically free.

Man, I sure do love my wife. She came home with this. The two stack on the right were $21 each, she wanted me to have them. All the rest were $2.50 each, she got every one they had. So check your Walmarts.

You better take her out to a nice dinner or something, great score!

Wow that’s a score.  I hit the closest Walmart with kits but those are all 24.97.  Maybe your store missed a decimal place 🤣

Two more to feed my greed: another one I thought I might as well get before they get any more expensive, a 1/16 AMT '55 Nomad. The Revell '34 and Minicraft '30 Ford drag cars needed something to tow 'em to the strip, anyway.  ;)

Amt 1/16 scale '55 Chevrolet Nomad sealed | #1889074931

And the last Accurate Miniatures Grand Sport Corvette I'll be buying. I snagged a bunch of the low-hood versions some time back, incredibly cheap, and later several sets of the brass PE parts that go with the high-hood version, but I had none of these high-hoods. Now I have one, easy enough to copy if I end up needing more.

Got another of the Coronet R/Ts and an original issue of the ‘68 Road Runner.  Plan to put the Hemi and maybe chassis from the RR in the Coronet.   I need the body and other parts of the RR to repair an original one I built 30+ years ago that got damaged in storage over the years.

Got this a couple of days ago, bought it from an on-line auction. Not sure of completeness, some has been put together.  When I opened the box a few real small screws and nuts fell on the floor, will have to do a good inventory to see if anything major is missing.

Got the doodlebug today and found out how small it is.

Here it is compared to AMT's Kenworth K123 cab.20230324_222639.thumb.jpg.4e0283101698578f0600e41f64ae2049.jpg20230324_222647.thumb.jpg.411c2da18b7a4e426f043a7333eb97ea.jpg20230324_222705.thumb.jpg.f0f3966267da79f8a0dbd4fc9ee22468.jpg

Also got this small duel peterbilt, it even has a engine and it looks to be the correct for the first truck that was used. Also has a sleeper included if you want to build it as a small version of the california hauler.

Last two cans of Duplicolor DAP1688 light gray sandable primer within 20 miles, or maybe the known universe. Everybody's got the sealer, the high-build scratch filler, and other colors of straight "sandable", but not this stuff.

I'm happy.  :D

EDIT: Funny thing is...nobody knew they had it. Not in the computers at any of the stores I went to, and it rang up as primer-sealer 1699 when I finally found it at O'reilly's, even though the cans are clearly marked otherwise.

Sometimes, showing up in the flesh and actually looking on the shelves works better than trusting the infinite wisdom of the interdwerbs. Imagine that.  ;)
