How about a japanese run?

Skylines, turbo rotary Mazdas, VIP saloons, crazy vans, pain cars, cyber formula racers...

It'd be nice to vote for more than one but FWIW I vote unlimited as I have a plan involving 4wd, fat rubber, GPS, leather seats & cruise control.

Yeah, I'm thinking about an Italian American hybrid myself. Some style and comfort are in order.

Unlimited for me. 70`s is too close to the early 80`s we did last year. I`ve had this terribly rude idea brewing away for a couple years and this`ll give me the push I need to do it.

I am still working on my 2012 entry (yes, I know the race already started!) and I prefer putting some limits on the build, otherwise, what's the difference between the CBR and any other build we do?

I vote for the 70s theme.

Hi all, I didnt participate in this years running of the Cannonball and I'm voting for the muscle car '62-74 era theme. Keeping in mind that Mustangs and Camaros were considered pony cars, not muscle cars.

Don't mean to start any controversey, But that's just my opinion and everyone has theirs.

Holiday cheers to all!!

Roy

(aka crazyhorse)

A good reason NOT to go for muscle cars - the never ending "discussion" about what exactly is a muscle car.

Go for '62 to '74. sure, but don't try and say muscle cars only. We'd spend more time arguing on here than building.

However, if we went for this i'd be tempted to build one of these...

Problem with a Japanese run would be that of either finding a full detail kit or adding the detail to a kerbside. That could put entrants off.

Mind you, this would count as Japanese wouldn't it?

And unlimited doesn't mean anything goes. There are still rules.

Well, a rule - It has to look roadworthy.

In addition you have to think about practicalities like will it go round corners? will it run at sustained high revs for the whole run? will it be able to carry enough fuel to get to the next servo? can I build in a full internet/comms/navigation setup for the co-driver?

So it's not just another build.

I'm surprised no-one has yet put street tyres onto a NASCAR and added a second seat.

Also, AFAICR no truck has ever made it to the start line (some were being built last year but despite some truly heroic trash talk they failed to show) - am I the only one who can envisage a lowered, streamlined prime mover with the 5th wheel area faired over?

Or, fenders, lights and mufflers on an F1 car?

In addition you have to think about practicalities...

Which is why 2nd place was fine with me. As mine progressed I felt it strayed from the Cannonball spirit into something else. Had I won, I had photos lined up (to be Photoshopped) to show how I cheated and flew the car to Las Vegas then drove.

I'm leaning toward Unlimited and Zenrat's photos speak for themselves.

I just chose the topics discussed in the 2012 CBP page, I think there are a few that overlap.

In addition to what Zenrat said about the unlimited build, the car must appear street legal. Headlights, taillights, license plates and appear to be capable of running cross country at a high rate of speed. A pro street with a ten gallon fuel cell for instance (someone tried it) would not be a good choice.

And Zen, no one might have tried a full Nascar racer, but the Nascar chassis' have been used a few times. My Monza and a clever Nissan Cherry come to mind.

And someone did Use a nascar Chev with an extra seat, and if memory serves me correctly it didnt even have a full exhaust.

I put the Cherry body onto a Taurus NASCAR chassis Jant but didn't think anyone had done one with the original body.

I stand corrected.
