Replicating my 1:1 Chevy HHR (using RMR's new resin)

The Chevy HHR was produced from 2006-2011, and enjoys a small but loyal following, more so when they were still in production, but still active today as there are many of these on the road. They were produced in several versions:

wagon

panel

"half-panel" AA5

and SS versions of each

I bought my 1:1 2006 base LS wagon new in July of '06, took it home and started cutting :o

Split the hatch down the middle in preparation for the barn door fabrication...

cut out the taillight 'blisters' to accommodate English-wheel formed fillers to shave the tails:

And this is as far as I got :( before...

life got in the way, we had another child, my daily driver finally wore out & the HHR became my new every-day ride :(

I'll finish it someday...

Here's my renderings of the basic plan:

And a photochop of what I'd like to do to the sides, to add character to the too-smooth factory panels:

For now though, I have to settle on a resin version...

This is RMR's new casting, which includes everything you see here:

I've started by cutting out the 'C' pillars, slicing off the running boards, and smoothing the tail 'blisters', pics of that and more to come...

Thanks guys...

Cool ideas.

So your car has no tail lights?

Erik, I enlarged the reflector openings in the rear bumper fascia and installed oval LED tails, with new back-up lights below. This plastic fascia will go away eventually and be replaced by a chromed steel bumper B)

I like HHRs. I always thought they were a neat concept. I had one for a rental last New Year's (11-12) for the weekend while my car was getting fixed, and liked it very much. I do wish they'd put something like that on the Cruze chassis, or simply bring the Cruze wagon here from Europe.

I like the mods you're making to yours, Jeff.
