how thin can you cast resin

Recommended Posts

can a resin part be cast .010 thick ????? or what's the thinnest you can cast

It has a lot to do with the shape of the part and the type of mold you're using, but 0.010" is do-able. I've cast parts with details thinner than 0.010", but I'm using all the proper casting equipment & materials to get those results. You'll have a hard time doing detail like that without pressurizing the resin as it cures.

Is this a resin part?

Yes, it is. The shape of each "spoke" is close to triangular in cross section, so that adds some strength, but when you get to the point of light being able to pass through the section, you've gone too thin. -_-

The flanges of these spokes are at the limit of what can be done, and again, the shape and structure of the spokes helps with stability, but you can only take it so far before areas are too thin to be able to withstand finishing and installation:
