Help with a Buick please!

Please forgive me guys if I have posted this in the wrong section but I need some help on my current project.

I am currently building the Monogram Buick Regal GNX and I am currently at the stage where the chassis and body have been painted, the body having been polished and am now about to tackle the interior. .I have been looking at various reference pictures in both magazines and the internet and am I right in saying that the front and rear light surrounds, the front grille, the over riders and the bumper inserts are painted in a SATIN black against the gloss black paintwork? Also, the chin spoiler seems to be MATT black on all the photo's that I have seen; is this correct?

As these cars are pretty rare here in the UK, I was hoping someone with maybe some knowledge of these awesome cars would be able to help me.

I promise to post pictures up on the forum when she is finished (soon, hopefully!) so thanks guys for any help you can give me.

You have to take into account the materials use to make those parts. The front spoiler is black plastic, just like every other car from that era, and it is naturally a smooth flat or matte black. The bumper strips are naturally matte, too. Both of these items can appear glossy black when they've been treated with Armor-All. The headlight surrounds are plastic that would normally be chrome-plated on a regular Regal (as well as the grille), but on the GN's they were painted semi-gloss black. The trim around the windows, wheel arches, and taillights have the satin-like look as well. Use Google and look at the photos of restored GN's and you'll get a good idea of how things are supposed to look. They are black all-over, but varying the degree of gloss on the parts will give you a much more realistic-looking model.

Good luck and please show us some pics of your progress!

Many thanks to you both, Ed and Joseph, your info was extremely helpful. Ed, I looked on the Bing website you forwarded and there was a few very good close up views which I had not seen before and they seem to back up my theory about the matt and satin black finishes on certain parts of the car. I certainly didn't know that a white one existed otherwise I may well have built that one instead!! A good excuse to buy another kit me thinks....!!

Joseph, your info too was very useful, as I said earlier, we don't have many of these cars here in the UK, I have only ever seen one at a classic car show and I was fortunate enough to see a mint example of a Grand National at the Imperial Palace car collection in Las Vegas a couple of years ago.

I can now finally finish off the bodywork thanks to both of you and I promise to post up pictures when she is finished, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

Many thanks again guys.

I agree with Ed. Locate some help from the Gran Sport Club of America. There is or used to be companies like Poston enterprises that advertised in the back of 1:1 car magazines that catered to the Buick owners. Calling them might be helpful.
