AMT Ernie Irvan Kodak Lumina

I've made a few posts so I figured I'd better pony up some progress of some sort. I decided to do this AMT to get back into modeling. I plan on leaving it box stock. I've taken a lot of time to remove a lot of the flash on the majority of the parts which is an improvement of something I would have produced 10+ years ago. Using a razor blade like a scraper for smoothing wood works wonderfully and make quick work of it. If you're not familiar, you drag the blade over what you want to shave down. So, if the blade is angled like this // you would be moving it to the right. It's very easy and wont gouge, but you can take too much material off so you still have to pay attention! (rambling)

Okay. I primed everything with a really old can of plasti-kote sandable primer. I used 1 coat on the body and went straight to 1500 grit wet-sanding. I went all out after that and I shot it with Rustoleum painter's touch Marigold . It will be wet-sanded and get another coat of color and then clear. The chassis and other black bits were hit with Rainbow Industries black lacquer. All comments welcome. Thanks for looking.

Finally a good day for painting! 70 degrees and about 70% humidity today. I was a little unhappy with how the paint turned out so I wet-sanded it down with 800 and gave it a good wet coat today. It vastly improved the "peel" that it had in spades before. This is easily the best paint that I've ever laid down on a model, or anything for that matter. And to my surprise I can't find any inclusions which is a miracle considering where I paint. I'm very happy about it and I can't wait to get the decals on and shoot some clear.

I've been working on painting and assembling the motor which is a pretty shoddy fit but I think it will turn out alright by my standards. I'm starting to see the warping issues I believe are associated with these kits. Everything is just about ready to assemble so I should have some more interesting pictures soon.

Thanks for looking. B)

Here it is. The moment you've all been waiting for! More pics of the #4 Lumina!:D:P

I've been working on this thing yet. I'd say 90% of the pieces have been removed from the sprue, cleaned up and touched up with color. I've assembled the motor minus the distributor and alternator which is soaking in brake fluid along with the wheels. The majority of the motor and trans is stainless steel MM metalizer I had. Heads are testors aluminum, breathers and "bolts" are testors argent silver, headers are testors white, pan and timing cover are testors blue and the carb is testors gold. Nothing too special as I'm using what I had in storage.
