Revell Sox & Martin 67 Satellite

Just got this kit at WalMart and opened it to find the wrong wheels in the box. It contains the Cragar S/S type wheels instead of the correct Keystones. Not possible to build a correct Sox & Martin car from the box.

I don't get it, the original boxing had the correct wheels. The original mold must still be around.

There must be a separate tooling insert for the wheels, as the original stock-only issue (#7359) contained Magnum 500 style wheels, and the second issue S&M car (#7365) had the Kesytone Klassic Kustomag wheels. It's possible the Keystone wheel insert went missing or was damaged, so they used the wheel insert from the '67 Coronet kit, which IIRC included Cragar S/S wheels at one time.

IMHO, neither the Keystone Klassic Kustomag nor the Cragar S/S wheels in any of Revell's kits looked all that great, and there are better options available.

Then there's the kit's life-long powertrain-drivetrain mismatch goof : Hemi / 4-speed / 8.75" rear is wrong !! Should either have a TorqueFlite or a Dana 60 ; the '60 was behind every 440 / 440+6 / Hemi when the 4-speed was optioned ; the 8.75" rear was the standard diff behind most 440 / 440+6 (excepting the special 1969 lift-off fibreglass Road Runner and Super Bee , where the 4.10 was the only diff).

In short ; the Sox & Martin 1967 "RO23J" kit has the incorrect differential ; it should be a Dana 60 .

I know about the rear end, but that's an easy swap with one from an AMT kit.

I have a set of aftermarket Ketstones but they are 1/24. The only 1/25 Keystones I am aware of are the old AMT parts.

I got also that kit and figured that those wheels are wrong but there's also one more problem. Interior looks good but 1:1 car had bench seat on the front and kit came only with bucket seats.

just an fyi,

but S+M ran at least 2 different 1967 GTX's back then.

a SS/D car - Hemi with black int

and a SS/E car - which was a 440 car with white int

I think both were 4 spd cars

The 1/25 Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T kits include a set of 14" Keystone Klassic wheels, but they are a bit generic, and not as crisp as the front wheels in the Revell '64 Ford T-Bolt kits IMHO. Here are the '68 Charger's wheels I mentioned:

I don't think that seat pattern was ever avail in bench seat form

I'm guessing it was made from two standard kit bucket seats, but it looks like the buddy seat was available in '67:

Casey,

like you said. It's a buddy seat which is a completely seperate section from the seat itself . ( ps the buddy seat is a fixed section as it doesn't move with either seat )

Your Walmart still sells kits in the store? Wow. Most locations pulled them from the shelves a long time ago. Lucky you.
