C3 Corvettes' undercarriage(chassis) factory color?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what color the C3 Corvettes' undercarriage(chassis) was painted at the factory?

More specifically the late 70's - early 80's C3's.

Was it in primer with over spray from the body or black? If primer then what shade? I think GM used a dark gray primer but I'm not too sure.

Thanks guys!

Monty, Your old thread was a big help. I think a dark gray, like German Gray or Engine Gray, will do the trick for the floor pans.

Well...take another look at that '80 on the assembly line. The bottom of the interior "tub" appears to be a lighter gray, and at this stage of assembly, it's doubtful that any other painting will be done.

Here's a pic from a '74. Semi-gloss black frame rails and raw fiberglass. If we're lucky, maybe one of our resident geniuses will show us how to replicate raw fiberglass in 1/25 scale.

You need really fine strands of fibre so first shave a kitten...

Looking at that pic i'd stipple as many different greys as I had.
