San Francisco Verses the Flying Saucers!

Members of our San Francisco SciFi Club are all building Ray Harryhausen Tribute Models for our 11th Year Anniversary Meeting Next Month!
This my version of a scene, that might have happened, from the Ray Harryhausen Movie Earth Verses the Flying Saucers.
I started with parts from the Pegasus Models Alpha Centari UFOs Kit, a 1970's IHC Victorian House, a Ferrari 250 GT, sheet plastic, a Laser Beam and Glowing and Flashing-Color Changing Lights.

ONE SAUCER PLEASE!

I found an old Tupperware bowl that was the Perfect Shape for the Top-Outside section of the Flying Saucer. I scribed a circle on the bottom of the Tupperware with the X-acto Knife-Compass.

I cut along that line with a Cut-Off Wheel in a Dremel Tool.

Here is the Cut-Out Section of Tupperware after Sanding and Leveling the bottom.

The Top of the Pegasus UFO fits Perfectly on the Ridge on the Tupperware bottom.

SLICING A TOP!

I found the perfect shape for a Flying Saucer Top in a Gumball Machine. This is one of those containers with toys in them, that you can find in Vending Machines.

I put a strip of 1/8th inch wide tape around the blue piece as shown. Then I drew a line along the edge of the tape and removed the tape.

Next I cut off the top with a Cut-Off Wheel.

FITTING THE TOP!

I traced the shape of the Top on to Sheet Plastic and cut the circle out.

After Sanding and Leveling I joined the Circle of Plastic and the Top with Zap-A-Gap, Green Label Glue.

I cut out a smaller Circle of Plastic and glued it in the center of the Tops bottom.

BIGGER BOTTOM!

The Bottom Section of the UFO needs a Larger Outer Ring. I cut one out of sheet plastic with the X-Acto Trimming Compass.

I decided to cut holes in the centers of the Top & Bottom Sections. The Dremel Tool with a Cut-Off Wheel made the job Quick & Easy! This will give me access for adding Lights & Magnets later.

The Bottom Section of the Saucer had a Raised Rim in the center. I removed it with an X-Acto Knife and Sandpaper.

SLOTS!

The Bottom Section of the Saucer needs some Slots, like the ones in the Movie!
I measured and marked the Slot Positions all the way around.

DSCN5669F_zpsded2e53b.jpg

I started Scribing with a Needle Sharp Point, gentle at first until I got a good lines in. Then I switched to a wider Scribe and went over the lines several times more.

DSCN5672F_zps91e0fecf.jpg

I used the end of a file to make the Slot a little Wider.

HERE WE GO!!!

I glued the Bottom Section of the Saucer to the Section I cut out of Sheet Plastic. Then I glued them into the inside of the Tupperware.

I glued the Top Saucer Section on to the Tupperware. I left the Blue Top Piece unglued for access to lights & magnets.

BOTTOM-CENTER!

I found that the Top to the Costco Salt Shaker was the perfect diameter for the Bottom-Center Section of the Saucer. I held the pencil and turned the Top to make a cut line...

DSCN5636F_zps2d9b8695.jpg

I cut the excess off with a Cut-Off Wheel.

DSCN5639F_zps229b1157.jpg

I sprayed a little Primer on the Top and after it dried I found center on the Top. Then I scribed a Circle for the "Elevator". The Laser Cannon will be located in the Center...

The Top-Center Section will not be glued in place, so I can access lights & batteries.
