what does everyone do for a living?

I'm a Culinary Arts student, who was a printer for 30 years until the bottom fell out of the printing industry back in 2010. Since I'm in school, my disposable income is near zero and my kit buying is down to one every 4 or 5 months. Once school is finished in January, and I find a job I'm going to go on a kit binge with my first pay cheque.

BMET = BioMedical Equipment Technician. I am the Manager, (and staff person), in a hospital. We maintain all of the medical equipment from cradle, (purchase), to grave, (dumpster). If it is theraputic or diagnostic, it is mine. There are a lot of regulatory issues to deal with. Documentation out the whazoo....... But I love my job. There is something new darn near every day. Never a dull moment.

I've made living as a professional stage designer for theatre, completed a BFA and MFA and went on to be a professor teaching at a variety of western Canadian universities. One of the joys of my profession is the construction, usually in 1/48 scale, of a model of the design, in addition to the draftings, and colour renderings. Having built models my entire life, okay, from the age of eight, this came very easily to me. With my students I always stressed the notion of learning to look at things in scale, to see how an object could be utililized in a different scale to represent some other item. Model construction to many was difficult, especially since it is usually all scratch built. I was able to surprise a lot of my colleagues, who were used to using matte board for construction, with the introduction of Plastic! Using plastic sheets and extruded shapes made a world of difference in the final product. Overall it was always a bonus to include my passion for modelling with my profession.

Retired from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department as a Sergeant (28 years total), moved west and began a new career.

I am currently an enforcement agent of the Nevada Gaming Control Board. I investigate crimes that take place in casinos. My specialty, if it can be called that, is computer fraud and embezzlement.

Counting cards is not against any law in Nevada. You will only be asked to leave the casino. Don't try it next door at another property, they already know about you before you get there. B)

Bending cards, marking cards, switching cards etc. is a crime.

I do Facility Planning for pharmaceutical companies. I work with the organization, their growth and expansion plans, and make sure they have proper real estate to do so.

I am currently looking for a new gig because the company that hired me to find a location and build a new headquarters building for them got a new CEO who squashed that project. I interview next Monday with another small pharma that wishes to do the very same thing.

The man on the proverbial, and literal, hot seat.

I've toured the NCSB and visited the Thirty Mile Memorial site. My hat's off to all the folks in the Yellow Fire Shirts.

Dale

Hear, hear.

I've done both structural and wildland firefighting. My hat's always off to the axe, shovel and chainsaw brigade. They are beyond fearless.

Temp to hire 2nd shift, with odd start time, bagger, forklift operator, stocker, and loader at a nationally known pre-mix bagged/bulk concrete/mortar facility...for now. Hopefully, I'll get hired on permanent and get all the OT I'm missing. I could have doubled what I've already made so far, but I can't even consider buying any models right now. Hey, you take what you can get sometimes.

Mechanical designer 20+yrs (HVAC and piping systems) and mechanical engineering student for a second time around so I can actually finish! Never chased my automotive engineering dreams fully and now is the time, life is short. Performance engineering/tuning/fabrication is where I'd like to be someday, but until then model building keeps me in that dreamy state!

I am a clerical support staff member at the College of Education at the U of Iowa. I supervise 8-10 student workers at our equipment checkout counter, where we schedule and distribute portable equipment to students, faculty and staff associated with the college, provide tech support, etc. I've worked at UI since June, '85 and have been doing this type of work for all but about two years of that time. I also have run the www.futurattraction.com website where I sell model car parts.
