How many of you tare down old builds ?

Just wondering how many of you folks tare down old builds from your collection to improve them? As for me I have a few builds that are near 30 years old and are in need of rebuilding .Well share your thoughts thanks.

I have rebuilt about about 10 out of my collection over the past 4 years and have plans for at least 4 more to do...

I've never done it, but have thought about improving some of my older models built many years ago.

I have some older builds that I have no problem tearing apart to make something better ,but some builds that were "groundbreaking" for me at the time would be restored to as built condition . I like to purchase old builds off ebay usually to rebuild a rare kit but sometimes they are just too cool to change.

I used to tear apart previous builds back in the 60's when I first started building, but I don't do it now. I leave them as is so I can see how my building skills and techniques have improved over time from model to model.

Yep. Not as much as I used to. Usually I did it to improve the paint or change the theme of the build.

I do on occasion, mostly when its a poorer build I did and its a kit that's hard to find now. I also will occasionally pull parts off older builds.

I've been doing it alot lately. My skills have improved, and I've learned some new tricks. I'm about 3-1 in rebuilds vs new builds the last few years.

Currently I'm rebuilding a Porsche 959 rally car for the Post Apocalypse community build, and restoring three hard to find mechs from the Revell Robotech line. I'm color correcting them to match the source material.

With the price of new kits, or buying old ones off ebay vs. "Hey, I can fix that"

I've only been back in the hobby since 2005 or so, and i don't have any of my old stuff from years ago. BUT, i buy a lot of gluebombs and collections, and tear those down frequently. Honestly, I prefer to rebuild some old mess into something nice, rather than starting with a virgin kit. Weird.

I've got a Monogram Dodge Challenger and a 70 Cuda that I'm going to be doing that with. The Challenger will be a restoration towards the original build correcting some of the mistakes I made some 30 years ago and the Cuda will be an extended project. I just flat don't know that the hek I was thinking when I built that one!

I usually do not, I just take what I've learned into consideration on the next one. I have built multiples of a kit, Revell '32 Ford, to see what I could do better.

I recently re weathered a tank that sat for about three months. I knew I wanted to do more but wasn't sure what. After two other builds, I brought it back to the bench and went at it. I really like it now, and had a blast working on it.

Nope, never will. I keep them just as they are. They really show how far I have come as a builder.

I take some old builds apart that I find but only done it to a few of my own builds...from my childhood...thinking I can do better this time on them and many of my dads oldies and mine were damaged once by a small tornado we had so I have to...if I ever find the needed parts Id be busy for years.

I do rarely. Am in the process of rebuilding the first model I did after getting back into the hobby, AMT's 66 Fairlane. Also rebuilt a 71 Duster I had built for my brother after he traded it.

Redoing these two '36 Ferds by Revell.

The blue 3 window clear coat bubbled and got put back on the box.

The brown one didn't get even paint coverage.

Both got the tops chopped. Built them both in '10.

I've got a few that I would like to take apart for a redo,,,,,,,,but,,, the list of unbuilts I want to do is too long to allow that to happen in the forseeable future

I tried rebuilding a glue bomb build off ebay but so much glue used is was junk. I could not get it apart....

I'm going back to my parents' house this weekend for the first time in quite some time, and I have a stash there of about 40 models I built in the late '80s. Now that I've learned about paint stripping and such, I'm feeling pretty sure all 40 are coming back with me.

None. I don't have a lot since I tossed all of mine back in the 90s, and I like the visible learning curve my older builds present...

i am guilty of this all the time, usually its because i found a new "color" that would look waaaay better on a particular subject

and stuff i get from e bay thats built almost always n gets torn down for parts or to be rebuilt

No, my built models are my babies and I love them all as they are. I do clean them up and repair as needed. As others said, looking at my older builds is like walking through the journey I've taken as a modeler, the progression of the learning curve. My pre-internet stuff has decals I made on a Xerox machine, one of my trucks actually has a license plate that was engraved by a jeweler friend of mine. Someone recently said I should update it to a printed plate done on the Acme site, no it's staying the way it always was!

Also, I don't part with my builds either. I still have everything I've built as an adult. I don't understand how people sell or give them away.

I do rebuild old stuff I've bought, and I especially like to restore old annuals and I'm known for restoring old customs done in the early 1960s.

It's easy when you see the look on someon'e face when they recieve a replica of a car they owned, or would like to own, or just like. I enjoy it.

Never have, but I do have a couple that I have never been happy with so I'm thinking about giving them a purple bath sometime in the future, maybe if I get around to it!!
