Great list but here are a few corrections The Cat 3208 in the Ford 8000 is actually a Cat 1160 a fore runner to the 3208. And Cummins ntc 400 non aftercooled in the Italeri kits is actually a Cummins n14. The Cummins ntc 350 and nta 370 in real life are quite different versions of the 855 block most noticable on nta's is the vertical oil cooler.

I believe what you say as I myself are not sure...I don't have all the kits listed and I haven't done the kit list, it's just copied (from this forum I think) so someone else has done most of the legwork, I have just added some kits to the list that I have myself and modified it slightly.

I checked the AMT NTA and NTC engines and they have different oil coolers so that's correct...and I'll put in the 1160.

But are you sure on the Italeri kits "no aftercooler NTC 400"??!?

Italeri hasn't been known to do accurate kits in every aspect and they often takes shortcuts here and there...as using the same chassis/engines for several brand trucks that shouldn't have and so on and many of their kits are wrong in several places.

I don't have an Italeri kit with the "no aftercooler NTC 400" (N14) so I can't check in a kit myself, but I just looked in the instructions for the kits in modeltrucks25 fotki albums and the engine looks like an older NTC with a different intake manifold and intercooler pipes to me, the heads and mostly the valve covers doesn't have the distinct square shape that the ones on the newer N14 has, they look to have the older NTA/NTC shape.

So to me it looks like Italeri took the older engine they already had and did some new parts to make it to look more like a N14 because after what I can see it's not an entirely correct N14.

Hi all

has the N14 an mechanical or electonical injection system? In my oppinion all Italeri engines have the old style mechanic injection pump more or less of a good shape. Perhaps that is a litel help for decinding what type of engine it is.

so long

TRaymo: P&P Resinworks has a nice KTA 600 and are the most likely place to get one fairly fast http://www.ppvintagekits.com/

lapazleo: Yes I know some of the N14's had stamped sheet metal rocker covers but they are still square in shape and not shaped like the older NTA-NTC style rocker covers.

Here is a pic of the older style NTA/NTC type Rocker Covers

N14 Rocker Covers, first the cast cover.

And the N14 stamped sheet metal covers.

But the intake they made looks like the ones on the N14 with Intercooler.

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't know who does a Cummins 6.7 engine, all engines I have listed are for large class 8 trucks, so I don't know what engine he refers to either.

I didn't list European manufacturers as they are'nt that common in USA, Volvos are available in the US but they are US made and are not the same as in Europe.

The old Ertl Volvo is in fact a N10 and has a 10 litre Volvo TD100 Volvo engine, it's very similar to the larger 12 litre Volvo TD120 wich would have been in a N12.
Revell AG did F12's and AMT/Matchbox did a kit labeled F10/F12 and I believe they both have a Volvo TD120.

Heller has a Scania LB 141 with a Scania DS14 V8.

Listing Italeri kits is a bit challenging as they are not completely correct all the time and lately they don't even include an engine anymore in some kits, the last Italeri kit I bought was the Volvo VN780 and it has no engine.
Italeri did Volvo F12's and F16's and all had the same chassis and TD120 wich is wrong for the F16 that should have had a newer Volvo D16 engine, I have never had the newer FH12 and FH16 and models after that so I don't know what engine they have...if any, but they should have a D12 for the FH 12 and D16 for the FH16.

Italeri did Scania 142, and 143 models with the same Scania DS14 V8 engine., the later 143 should have had a DSC14 with Intercooler but didn't, they have also made the later 144 and R series but I have never had any of them so I don't know what engine they have...if they have any, but Scania has a new 16 litre angine called DC16 wich looks completely different to the old DSC14.
I don't have many Italeri kits and has never had except for some kits of the two Swedish makes Volvo and Scania, one Mercedes...and a couple American trucks, so I don't know what kit has what engine...and if it's correct or not as I can't check the kits myself.
