Any issues to be aware of with this kit, beside the front axle which needs to be repositioned slightly? No warpage, ill-fitting parts, etc? Any issues with the re-issued version from 2009?

None to speak of other than that axle issue. This was originally an Ertl kit, and it's a cut or two above the typical AMT truck kit from the same period of time.

Does that generally hold true for all of the Ertl International kits?

All but the Scout II. That one was so simplified it would have made a Monogram engineer at the time blush. The Payhauler 350 kit? That's something else entirely... size, parts count, you name it.

I built several original ERTL Internationals (Transtar II and 4300 Eagle, Paystar 5000) - crisp mouldings with fine detail, superb instructions which leave no questions - for me the "Tamiya" of truck kits.

The only issue I remember is a slightly warped hood on the 4300 that did not close exactly (this one has been modified, the donor kit has been turned into a daycab).

The 4300 is the long hood & the 4200 is the short hood. I think the 4200 also had the Cummins V903 instead of the International V800, but I'm not positive.

They also did a "racing" version- that's one I'd love to see reissued.

Didn't the 4270 kit have Hendrickson walking-beam suspension instead of air-ride? I have several built-up Ertl International's and one has the walking-beam set up... I haven't compared hood length between that one and the 4300's...
