If you go to youtube you can watch a video of the 59 Chevrolet being produced from clay to the real car's being built at the factory. then theres a video that show's pictures that life magazine took at a Chevrolet factory in 1959 there you will see that the Exhaust manifolds were painted red along with the engine. and the 6 cly exhaust manifolds were painted blue along with the engine. Though the copyright date at the end of the film says 1958......given GM's lead times and having to get the car into production about August of that year, I'd say the clay molding portion of the film was done sometime during '57. Seems that there had to be running examples on the road to be tested by very early '58 at the latest to get the bugs worked out, and to finalize tooling for production. Here's the video............
