Diamond Reo Junkyard Dump Truck

Recommended Posts

Heres a little side project that I picked up to add to my junkyard rebuild collection.Im using parts from my dumper parts box to make a body out of cut up dump trailers, and pieces of the Autocar body.Im leaving the cab paint original, with some weathering and rust. The frame will be mostly repainted. I changed the grill to the other style. I sectioned an Astro fuel tank into a hydrolic tank. I also added a resin roof a/c.

Very nice dumper. I like these short WB dump trucks with no lift axles added. I have a plan of my own for something like this.

I added brake cans and air lines. This is not a detail that I have ever done(the lines), shockingly, but Im always looking to be better. Im not going to go crazy, by trying to replicate air fittings. Im fine with just the line.

Im going to add a 2nd truck to this build. This is a Junkyard Diamond Reo Apollo 92 Short Hood Triaxle Dump Truck. This truck has been pulled together from the junkbox. This is an A.I.T.M. resin frame, D Reo cab & hood, KW batt box, pete & kw tanks, aux trans with two drive axles and one tag axle with a Hendrickson walking beam rear suspension, and air leaf axle.1st drive axle is air leaf, 2nd drive axle is 1st axle in walking beam, last axle is solid tag axle.Cummins engine, spicer trans ,modified trailer dump body. I have been wanting to do this for awhile, so I started pulling stuff out of the junkbox and putting it together.

I really like what you've done with the second truck...tough looking. Is the short hood from a kit or modified by you?

Its a modified kit hood. Heres a few shots I posted in the truck stop under this topic.

I cut off .8" from the end, sliced it right behind the grill to keep it straight when I spead it out, sliced it down the middle, spread it to fit the cab, and inserted a triangle piece to fill the gap.The fenders have to be angled in more at the cab.

Got some paint on the chassis of Old Greene. I have some sanding to do on the dump box, and get that in paint. After that, on to the weathering. I think the tri-axle will be solid yellow and be in "used but well cared for" condition.
