What did you see on the road today?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday on my way to work I passed an interesting load on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.  A pickup pulling an open trailer with two early 50s Jaguar convertibles. One was 3/4 a car the other was about 1/2 a car.  Both looked restorable.

On the way home, same road, I'm passing a big Ram pickup with an open trailer. Load wasn't interesting, just an SUV.  I'm driving about 80 with cars in front of me, truck is going maybe 75 with other slower traffic in front of him.  I'm looking at the trailer, and all of a sudden this friggin Japanese Rocket motorcycle goes flying by, BETWEEN US.  It's only two lanes there.  I watch him swerve to the left and pass the cars in front of me in the left shoulder.  The bike was going so fast that he disappeared ahead of us.  IDIOT!   There was barely a few feet between us.  All he needed was to hit a mirror and he's an organ donor!

I've seen a variety of cars on the streets in the last couple of weeks. Yesterday saw a Tesla Model X, before that a 1959 Chevy Impala 4 door hardtop, a MG-TD, Lotus Europa TC, and an early (1960 or 61) Ford Falcon.

Was up north over the weekend, saw some interesting older cars in Williams and Prescott, AZ..   '55 Pontiac, '46 Cadillac, 2 Ford trucks, a Bronco half cab, and a '50 Ford.   The '50 Ford, trucks, Bronco were at a neat gas station/Rt 66 sourvenir shop in Williams.    Also saw a blue '54 Cadillac and a tan '55 Cadillac, a '50 Pontiac, a '58 Edsel 2dr, a really clean '63 Dodge Dart convertible, and a couple '65 T-Birds.

I saw a U2 Spy plane doing touch and goes at Beale Air Force Base. I loaded at a sand plant basically across the street.

Clayton, too bad you wern't there (or you might have been!) back when the SR-71's were Based there. Even Grounded they are Amazing Aircraft.

I've seen the SR-71 up close. When was in high school I was in the Air Force Junior ROTC. We tool a trip every year to Edwards. We got walk around it. It is an awesome piece of aviation history.

A cherry red '32 Ford highboy roadster, on the coastline road between Cannes and Saint Raphael (French Riviera) and too many recent Bentley ragtops to count, think they're givving them away here.......

Would have been even cooler to be there when they were using '68-'69 SS396 El Caminos as the chase cars. B)

Saw a late model Ford Crown Vic with big rubber on it--hanging out the wheel wells 2-3" on all four corners. Looked like many models I built in the '60s, and I don't think I've seen anything like that on the road--at least not a big American car--since the '70s.
