What do you think of 1/20 scale trucks?

What do you think of 1/20 scale trucks? The scale always just seemed so "off" to me. I'm considering trying one though, since I can't find the Chevy S10 pickup I want in 1/25.

Any thoughts on 1/20 scale building?

Hmmmmmm.....other than not knowing if there was a stock grille, Revell offered the S10 with a waverider based on the GMC Syclone kit and AMT offered normal mid 90s S10s and GMCs.

As for your question though, other than being an "off" scale (guessing you meant that as not a popular scale), I actually liked most of the old Lindberg offerings from their 1/20 phase. They weren't hard builds and actually in my opinion, with some work which should be normal basic building skills like mold like removal and such, actually build into some pretty nice models. There also are some subjects like the Nissan hardbody and 90s Toyota pickups or the early 90s first generation Ford Explorer that you either can't find in any other scale (Explorer and maybe Nissan) or a plain Jane stock version (Toyota) in another scale.

The old MPC second-generation Ford Econoline van is pretty nice too, if you can track one down. MPC was really pushing hard for 1:20 scale back then, and later when George Toteff was in control of Lindberg in the early '90's he tried it again, resulting in the kits Matthew just mentions. I can back up everything he has to say about them, and throw in that, because of the "oddball" scale, you can usualy score a sealed example for relatively cheap. They're about as good as any of the modern light truck kits from other manufacturers of the time as far as detail and overall accuracy goes, just in a larger size. In fact, that's really the only major gripe most modelers seem to have with them- the scale itself.

You're right about the prices, I've seen them sealed for really decent deals. I may try one. I've only ever built 1/25 and an occasional 1/24.
