Wrinkle Black?

What is the best way to get a scale wrinkle black finish on parts, such as Hemi valve covers? I have tried using Krylon semi-gloss black shot from the spray can with a heavy coat to get texture, but must there be a better and more realistic way to get this finish.

I'm not sure if it's the kind of finish you're looking for but Rustoleum makes a texture paint that I use for similar finishes. I get it at Home Depot.

You might try the Testors/Model Masters Fabric Black, No. 28142. It has a slighly sand texture to it when it dries, and it dries flat. Try it on a sample piece first to see if you like the affect. I would use a flat black base first to establish the color, then apply VERY light coats of the fabric black until I got the look that I wanted.

If you don't like it on your valve covers, you can always use what's left in an interior.

Scale Motor Sports makes a textured spray that might work. Also when I worked in a hobby shop, the crafts department carried a spray paint that would give a crackle effect. It would look like a vinyl, but I don't remember the name of it.

I tend to agree with Jairus on this, posted on the other half of the this thread (sorry for the double post). After scaling down the wrinkle effect, it would barely be noticable. Any attempt would probably be way out of scale.
