What are gonna do when the battery is dead in 1 of your hot rods? I dont see a battery charger! You could always jump it, oh wait no jumper cables!

Richard........ I've been watching this post every day since you first started it...... in growing frustration! Frustration that I cannot achieve the level of inspiration, skill and patience that you have....... however hard I try. And I've been modelling for over 50 years!!!

My hat's off to you sir.

Tony

haha thnx guys !!!

and tony whell i started building in 2008 , first did 3 diecast thingys and then started with styrene kits ..

i think i can explain the inspiration part .. before i started modelbuilding my hobby was photoshopping cars.

i was real fanatic about that and spend hours and hours in details of one rendering.. photoshop tuning / pictuning .. i was pretty well known in that scene and did that for a long while ...

that photoshopping is about the same as modelbuilding better said scratchbuilding .. you make something from nothing (in that case virtually) and only have your own inspiration as a guideline or barrier (?)

same as modelbuilding the photoshopping is a process of starting first time as a noob and growing and getting better and learning new techniques , where you begin with just copy and pasting stuff from different car pictures , you end up brushing it yourself with a wacom tablet etc etc ..a lot of stuff to learn there also

it involves a lot of design and like vision to create something you made up .. that also grows the more you do it same as modelbuilding

beside that i was also a sort of selfthought diy fanatic ... making stuff from part bought and part salvaged materials .. seeing things different and always got great reactions when people saw the stuff i made .. i have always been able to use what ever stuff i could to make something of that .. and thats also what i love ..

more then buying materials .. i just love to re-use stuff and change stuff

now one day i got a diecast model for free and for fun started changing that .. and found a lot of stuff on the web i got like the modelbuild virus ...and in the end that grew into styrene and i stopped the photoshopping because both hobbys where the kind that take hours and hours .. photoshopping believe it or not is twice as timeconsuming as modelbuilding .. i had too choose because i didnt have the time for both ..

so i choose modelbuilding and still never had any regret .. its just more hands on and toutchable then something virtual (although i will always love virtual design)

and maybe weird to say .. but i have done a lot of stuff thats hands on .. creating or making stuff i never did .. and just by hearing or seeing how its done .. i kind of made it work or did it myself .. i'm a pretty quick learner ..

and last but not least .. the dio thing i got from seeing some great builds here and online everywhere and those builds insprired me to start one myself (the precious one) this is now my third dio , started with the hotrod garage , then the gasstation and now this one .. when i put this one next to the hotrod garage .. its funny .. how simple that one is in comparison .. but thats cool growing and learning new stuff :)

i will always say this > the most important is drive .. i start a project like this and it consumed me , when i'm not building i think about it .. get spontanious idea's .. sometimes go the other way round and take parts and look at them wondering what i can make from them ...

but the drive and want / need to go all the way is i think what makes the difference ..

when i started with hotrods i cut corners and the chassis and undersides where a bit dodgy .. like you cant see it so ... then that grew into the need to make everything like it should be .. its that drive that pushes you to get better every time

all not ment cocky because when i see some stuff around here , for instance the brass builds (tow truck and ford gt40) or the aluminium stuff .. i think whow still so much stuff to learn and get better in :)

started on a charger / start cart .. used a 6 pin lego block and on the hollow side removed the circlea and glued in two louvre panels and a piece of plastic (not styrene)
10313818_580828702050044_999234989632200
added some wheels
1469994_580828695383378_1772792210419429
tray for the cables .. a handle and a top with connectors (not done)
10410487_580828698716711_322206877442344
some knobs / switches and in the hole will sit a gauge
10947292_580828762050038_353247506498217
adde some primer .. louvres pop now , because i want the cart to look udes and battered i on purpose build it not perfect .. so it a bit roughly build to make it look well used later on

I can't believe my eyes after your postings Rich. Just amazing. But when will put up more pics of your magnificent yard? Or is there someplace else I can see more pics?

thnx guys and no sorry jim .. i will have to make a thread or something .. maybe there is a other hobby's topic ? and when i have some time ..

finished the starter / loader cart .. i'm not 100% statisfied with this one .. cant put my finger on it .. but .. it was decent enough to put in the garage ... maybe some stuff around it later on ??
designed my own round gauge and printed that ... made brass clamps wires ... maybe its the fact that its a tad to messy overall .. i wanted the used look but .. hmm maybe this one should have been nicer and tighter ?

thnx pete , hmm the tray in front was made like some examples i saw , thats where you can put the wires in .. i tried to put them in a bot messy like they didnt feel like rolling them up ... in the end i think it would have been nicer to make the whole front a tray so from top to bottom hollow .. or do like rolled up wires hanging on hooks or..

tbh it was a quick thing , added detail thing ...

i put the wires more in the tray and gave the red a mild coat of gloss

I've been on board for this since the first posting and look forward to each new update. One thing I think would help the 'believability' of this dio is to get a few different colors of red spray paint. Every red item is the same color.

thnx guys B)

and i understand the red comment but its just bright plain red .. i used a darker red .. that looked horrible .. like one looked red and one made the other look weird ..

added a electric cord and plug

10407432_581713721961542_334773723992940
and finally cut and placed the outwide walls windows .. adds a nice extra toutch due to the reflections

As everyone has said, "This diorama looks absolutely fantastic." What other things do you plan to add? Hopefully you won't mind a few ideas?

Maybe some work gloves and rags laying around? A can of motor oil or 2, maybe some spilled oil spots? Some pens or pencils and pads in the office? A television in the office/waiting room for customers? A radio and speakers somewhere in the workshop area for the workers to listen to? A restroom area for workers and customers? A vending machine for drinks and/or snacks, and/or maybe a water cooler?

I know your space is limited and that you really don't want it to look too cluttered or crowded...... but you've got my imagination working overtime with this creation of yours..!!

I guess "great minds think alike" Richard..!! Sorry I missed those work gloves. Your speakers look great.... good luck with the rest of the planned additions. Any possibility of either putting on a small addition for a 2 piece restroom, or somehow making an "upstairs" restroom addition? I'm not trying to create more work for you here, just making suggestions.

i just talked about that a week ago :) like i could add on a small piece that maybe hinges open .. not sure yet tbh .. its like this isnt the whole garage and eventho its a big dio you always the have need for more space

in the end i could have cut the office in half and added a restroom .. but whell ...

i will see later on if i want to ad a part or not .... but i feel you :)

ps upstairs wont happen i tried that and also tried beams .. but it takes away so much of teh visible detail thats in the garage now i really dont want that

Been watching since the beginning. Often felt like making a comment, but thought, wait 'till Rich is finished. Well I have to say how amazing this diorama is! Like most other guys here, at a loss for words. Congratulations! A piece of art.
