Oh, god! 70's coachbuilders. There must be a hundred of them. All taking ugly cars and making them uglier!

I know what it is, too...

.... it is truly, spectacularly, irredeemably AWFUL.

Now I just need to give it a name.

bestest,

M.

what's ugly here? it's definitely an improvement over it's stablemate. cleaner lines and execution than the clumsy Excalibur. it looks like something Cadillac SHOULD have been building instead of catering to rap stars.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for these. The styling is actually pretty nice once you get past all that chrome.

I've stood close enough to one to see the power plant.

I'll get this one as long as my memory doesn't fail me. :)

When you consider the target market it seems very restrained, I even like the chrome.

Not related to the Excalibur. Its stablemate was the much worse Zimmer Golden Spirit.

I knew it was a Zimmer, couldn't pinpoint the year or model (it's been a crazy week!). IIRC, these were modified in a plant near Milwaukee WI. I think I remember seeing some of these at Road America in Elkhart Lake at one time.

Darn it, I forgot to check out the car this week! This one I knew off the top of my head (OK, maybe not the year) from an article in Car & Driver when it was new. For some reason, it stuck with me.

never said it was stablemate to the Excalibur. just that the Excalibur is clunky looking despite Brooks Stevens' best efforts. not so awful as the ubiquitous Gazelle "SSK" "replica" (i just puked a little there) cars, but not up to the hype surrounding it then or now.

it speaks well of the original Fiero design (itself heavily derived from the X-series GM line) that the source car can be embellished so well and remain pretty well balanced despite changes in wheelbase, body length, etc... and here I am, a devoted anti-GM guy praising them yet again.

I agree this car is not bad looking. Actually I kind of like it. B)

Not enough to ever want one... but I've seen a lot worse.
