1984 Ford Transit by Esci

I never realized until this year the Transit name had been used for so long by Ford.

Ford should've sold the original Transits in the USA. I remember when they first brought in the Transit Connects... people said they wouldn't sell here, and the next thing you knew they were all over the place. I'm sure these Euro Transits would have sold here too!

They could very possibly have been sold and done well in the states. I just compared the AMT "Phantom" Econoline with the Esci Transit (yes I know the AMT kit is 1:25 and the Esci is 1:24) and the Transit is only a littlebit smaller than the Econoline in the cargoarea and I do think that gasmilagewise the Tranist would beat the Econoline, especially with the Diesel engine. The Transit has also always been available with many different combinations of bodylenght, roofheight, loadrating, engine and gearbox configurations, possibly more than the Econoline.

And now, the big RWD Transit (no "Connect") has replaced the E-Series van and wagon. If you want an E-Series this year, you can only get it as a stripped chassis or a cutaway. According to Ford they plan to build those for another three or four years.

It's been a while...

I was buisy with other stuff, and my Transit hasn't been touched since spring. Now, as I was preparing stuff for another project, I needed things painted in trans red, and as I was at it, I thought I might aswell paint the rear lights of the Ford. And I did. As I had that, I painted the frames aswell, so that they are done. But then I figured I could put them right on, and the spare wheel, drill the exhaust, mount the windows, glue on the wheels, prepare this and that, add a wash to the side doors...

Seeing your Escort and the time you've put into it, I wonder why you just don't hunt one of these down. They are rare, but not impossible to come by. Of course you'd have a project for several years, as you'd build it fitting your Escort, and that means basically redoing everything but the body...

I've tried.  Made what I think are fair offers on a few I have found on ebay.  Sellers are always asking outrageous prices for the kit.

Try Kingkit in the UK, that's where I got mine from. It was 70 pounds, so quite expensive, but still cheap for a Transit kit that was mint. The truth is, this kit is something you won't see twice at a model show. And though it's a curbside, and the chassis detail isn't up to date, the way the body looks like is just nuts. This might be the most acurate rendition of a car that I've seen.

Great build.  I wish this kit would be reissued.   They are hard to track down.  I would like to build one as a support van for my Escort RS1800 build.

Yes please! I got one but almost don't dare touching it because I will never find another one if a break something.

There in lies the problem, I'm not willing to pay $100 for the kit.

Yea, I thought so too, and passed on one for 140, then a dude I know got a mint Hertz version for 280 bucks and was out of his mind of happiness... I guess for 100 bucks, it was a good buy, given the rarity of the model and the actual quality of it. It would be easier to pass on it if it was junk, like the Revell Mercedes W124 which only looks kind of like a Mercedes...

However. I began to build the inerior, and I can't stand interiors. I added the seams around the seats, I damaged them, I built the seatposts from scratch and made rubber mats for the floor, built a toolbox...
