  1. Here's how i got some premium building services. A great builder that i follow, was looking for a 1966 Buick Skylark. I happen to have a few in various conditions, with grand plans of building a nice stock " one of these days". And since life right now doesn't allow me very much bench time i thought if i gave him a rare Skylark,  he might build 2 cars for me. Well I did contact him and made my pitch, and we agreed on the deal. While one car was painted by me 4 years ago I never did anything else to it. So the first pic is the car he got for his services,  the second pic is a Skylark he built for me from a Craftsman version and the Olds is the car I had painted, but he did everything else to my liking. 20240224_183542.thumb.jpg.528e48651e5fac9706fe9bc414b565be.jpgIMG_20240422_201511.jpg.362a6c04233e7a04a237b1dab7226f1c.jpgIMG_20240422_201515.jpg.134765ad5874487b9aace0e0aed56bc1.jpg

  2. While the car in the tv show is a 33 It was much easier to convert a 34 coupe. This is the first car I've finished in about 3 years. And while its not perfect, (as was the real car far from perfect) it turned out just like i wanted. The kit itself is a nightmare to build. I started be cutting the top off of a 34 and member here generously donated at cowl and windshield frame from a 32 Ford. After that its basically a box stock kit. I've included a few tv show scenes so you get the idea.20230823_202449.thumb.jpg.e2c6b9d4bd98aa7786c90654e9bb7554.jpg20230823_202936.thumb.jpg.4e84f6d3bca88bc6ca33bcc359d4a7f2.jpg20230823_203003.thumb.jpg.33b7e1d809616716a4aa8c000442d1be.jpg20240224_110019.thumb.jpg.982c05a433c3ace72723cc43bc7cc699.jpg20240224_110047.thumb.jpg.522ff9ae0543b6884c557a31945650f7.jpg20240224_110002.thumb.jpg.d25158920dd9db3677e92abaf5b87a1b.jpg20240224_110013.thumb.jpg.7c5fadbeed4282a273c9ae5dc2d46765.jpg

The only version of that Kyle Petty Grand Prix that ever existed was an AMT kit done back in 1983. From my experience you don't want any part of those early AMT stock cars, not to mention it would be the wrong scale compared to all of the Monogram 80s kits.

The $50+ is the MSRP, the real shelf price is somewhere in the $42-44 price. Cheapest early 80s era Monogram Grand Prix on eBay right now runs $30 shipped and you'd still be on the hook for another $12+ shipping to get the KP 7/11 decals off Powerslide...so that's $42-44.

Show prices of those old kits gas risen as well since $25 for one of those old Monogram kits is now half the price of a new one. Those sub-$10 prices are gone for now.

While you may be right about purchasing from eBay and the MSRP, i set-up at a show late last year in Indiana and there were more Nascar for $10 and under than i could have fit in my car.

  4. Ok here goes,  and let me say up front that I'm not bad mouthing or bashing anyone or any business. Just simply trying to understand something. I just seen that a new Nascar (old) model is about to be released. While I like the driver he was never a Nascar super star. And given the current resale of Nascar kits that can be had for usually less than $10 at any given swapmeet(even for Super Star drivers) how can it be profitable for a company to release a new old kit and then charge over $50 for it.  Im simply try to understand the thinking here.
