  1. Basketball on TV. I'd rather be watching the Big Bang Theory. Scott
  2. I have several friends, mainly through the local model car club, that are into the hobby. And I have yet to see any in our group that I would consider "mooches." They seem to be pretty good guys. Helping when they can. Never asking for too much. In general good considerate friends. I'm surprised by what I've read in other people's posts here. I don't ever really recalling anybody like that within my model building friends. In other areas of my life I've meet people like that. And sometimes I worry that I maybe coming off as the obnoxious mooch. I hope not. But again, I haven't seen much of this with my modeling friends. Scott
  3. I'm thinking the feet and hands we see sticking out of the curtains in the tiki hut in the Surfite kit, will be painted green rather than "flesh color" on mine. Indicating that Rat Fink himself is sleeping in the hut. Scott
  4. I am of Finnish decent. (I'm half Finn and half Norweigan. And someday hope they Finnish the other half!) But, my last name has no relationship to Saint Urho's at all. The Finns just seem to like names and other words that start with, and have a lots of vowels in them. By the way, "Aho" in Finnish means "a clearing in the woods." A lot of Finnish people got their last names from where they lived. What Urho means in Finnish, I have no idea. I do know how the name was picked for the saint when he was invented in the mid 1950's. At the time, Finland had a President or Prime Minster with that last name. Scott Aho
  5. Beautiful job on both the Surfite and the Tiki Hut, Tom. As I noted before, the hut and figure of Big Daddy are the two things that convinced me to buy the kit. The tiki hut is already down stairs get its first coat of paint and Roth has got a decal placed on his shirt. I've started to do some plimanary work on the Surfite itself. As you noted Tom, it is a little "fiddly". But, over all it doesn't seem too bad, and is a lot more interesting design than I expected. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. I'm very pleased with this purchase. Forgot to mention, the kit not only comes with the surfboard that fits into the Surfite itself, but two other cool but different surfboards. Plus it now comes with decals for taillights and grille. Making those a lot easier to detail. The kit is very fun. Well worth the price. Scott
  6. Scott, do they do anything special there on the Ides of March? I assume the picture you posted is the place were Ceasar was stabbed all of those years ago? Scott
  7. For a curbside, I think it looks very nice. Scott
  8. Added two more to my collection today. Revell's Ed Roth Surfite with figure. And the prepainted figure of Big Daddy looks really good. I like the fact that your given six different decals to customize the blank white t-shirt he's wearing. The Surfite is cool, but I always wanted to build the Tiki Surf Club shack even more. Adding the prepainted Roth figure pushed me over the edge into buying this one. I also got Monogram's Tom Daniel Ice "T". I've been thinking about this kit for 45 years. It's a cool design (pun not intended). But I've always sat on the fence about buying this one. And I don't know why? But I've finally got one. Now, do I paint it like the box art? Which looks okay, but makes no sense to me. Or do I paint it a nice light, ice blue? What do you think? Scott
  9. Minnesota too is like those Nordic countries. "Long, dark winter so we have more than efficient amount of time to think of something totally bonkers." Plus the state is filled with with people of Nodic decent, who were bonkers enough to settle in an area that looked a lot like Norway, Sweden, and Finland. Rather than someplace nice and warm with short winters. I'd say my ancestors were not the brightest bulbs in the bunch, to move from Norway and Finland to Minnesota! Scott
  10. And what did you think about them? Were the diesel models any good? Scott
  11. Steve, did the hash marks on the '67 XR-7 make it on to the production/street versions of the car? It's been a long time since I've looked at '67 Cougar XR-7s, but I thought the hash marks were only on prototypes and early press cars. I maybe wrong on that? Am I? Scott
  12. Thanks for the heads up on this one. Just went over to eBay and ordered one. They look pretty good, looking at the picture on eBay too. Scott
  13. I'm a little disappointed that nobody thought my above comment was funny. Maybe I should repost it on April 15th. Scott
  14. This is getting out of hand. I like it! Scott
  15. Quit complaining. If we could we would. Almost 24 hours, and the snow is still sticking to the trees and grass. At least the streets and sidewalks are clear. Scott
  16. There is a song call, the Song That Never Ends. I feel like that's what we got going on here, and I'm getting bored of it. I'm looking forward to a true review of the Del Rio Ranch Wagon when it appears. Hopefully Tim Boyd will do one of his great reviews on it. In the mean time, I'm sure it's back to the pissing contest. The Song That Never Ends. Scott
  17. In South America, GM also made a Chevette/T-body El Camino like pickup truck. Chevette was in some ways GM's first true world car. Like I said earlier, I admire the Chevette. It was a fairly good cheap car. And it was cool in all the variarations that were offered around the world. Someday Chevette will get the respect it deserves. Scott
  18. Over the weekend, though the mail, I got Scotty Gosson's book Wildest Show Rods of the 1960s & 1970s. Good companion to his book on model show rods that I got about a week ago. Scott
  19. I've had several friends who owned Chevettes and a T-1000 over the years. They were cheap and okay looking to some degree. But, they all very good and reliable cars. I actually respect them. At the same time the only model I have of a Chevette is the promo of a '79 I bought new back in 1979. If the kit was reissued I'd probably buy one. But, I'm chomping at the bit to get my hands on one. A Vega on the hand.... The Vega was not as good of a car as the Chevette. But, it looked a lot better. Especially the early versions with small bumpers. Scott
  20. What is word on this on? And is it 1/24th scale? If so, it would be cool to find one. Scott
  21. Another great review Mr. Boyd. Thanks again. Scott
  22. Just got back from a nice weekend in Duluth, MN. I go up there every year for their World of Wheels Show. Since we don't have one in the Twin Cities anymore. I always have a fun time there. I stay with a cousin and go to the show with her husband, Rus. This year a buddy of Rus' joined us and we had a really great time. While we were at the show on Saturday the wives went out garage sailing. We meet them for a late lunch after the show. Then just us guys went over to the train museum at the old Duluth railroad depot. That's the second time I've visted that museum. The first was just a year ago. And again I was blown away by the place. The other gentleman with us, Loren, had never been there before. He too was impressed and plans on bringing his grandkids up there in the future. Today we stopped at another cousins "getaway" cabin near the old grandparents (and extended families) old homestead(s) out in the country near by, a little ways outside of Duluth. A very cute retreat she has out in the sticks. One thing I love, is she has four chickens besides a a dog and two cats out there. And for whatever reason I just get a big kick out watching and interacting with the chickens. I find them both fascinating and humorous to watch. Loving extended family. Good company. Good food. Cars and trains. Entertainment from chickens. And a job I love, that I get to go back to. What more can one ask for? Life is good. Scott
  23. It's a kick sled? Isn't it? One person sits in front, while a person in back stands pushing it. Not very common around here. But, I've seen one or two. And, I though it was called a kick sled. Scott
  24. Basically the same thing here Harry. I've been out of town for the weekend, and have not heard or seen a weather forecast. I'm really hoping we're not going to get any accumulation of snow. Winter needs to end! Scott
  25. GTX was not an option for the Road Runner in '69. It was considered a seperate model. It was basically a fancy Road Runner. But it was not a Road Runner with a GTX option package. Not until 1972 at least. Scott
